The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is a non-ministerial government department with a big vision to drive change within the food system to deliver our overall strategic objective of “food we can trust”. The FSA is responsible for protecting public health in relation to food in England and Wales. Our job is to use our expertise and influence so that people can trust that the food they buy and eat is safe and what it says it is

The FSA is accountable for the delivery of Official Controls in England and Wales in all approved slaughterhouses, game handling establishments and other associated meat production facilities in a variety of locations.

The Official Auxiliary role is one of the key front-line operational activities within the FSA. The primary function of an Official Auxiliary is to carry out post mortem examinations of all animals presented for human consumption within approved slaughterhouses across England and Wales. The post holder will be required to examine carcases and associated offal’s to determine their suitability to enter the food chain. Due to the nature of the industry, you will be expected to be flexible in your hours of work, as many facilities require our services during unsocial times of the day, including night working in some areas.

We are seeking a number of trainee Official Auxiliaries from a diverse mix of qualifications, skillsets, backgrounds and experience within the Meat Industry and or other food sectors. Everyone who joins the team will receive training and ongoing development.

After the initial training - expanding your existing skills and experience. You can expect to play your part in delivering “food we can trust”. This is your opportunity to be part of something new, to learn and develop with your fellow team members and learn from the expertise already present in this front line operational role.
