Are you a Technical Manager on a large site looking to step up? Or a Head of Technical looking for a new challenge?

We are currently seeking a Head of Technical for a poultry manufacturer based in Suffolk.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive you will be responsible for leading Account Management technical relationships, representing and co-ordinating customer activity across the site and to develop and implement effective management systems, to ensure operational and technical integrity at all times.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement a plan to deliver continuous improvement against quality, cost and technical KPIs and ensure the factories and suppliers maintain the standards required by all customers and relevant codes of practice/guidelines
  • Ensure effective QMS in place that encompass all aspects of food safety and quality to IOS / EFSIS / BRC / TFMS / HACCP standards
  • Review and develop those staff responsible for Technical to ensure they maintain acceptable standards of performance, attendance and behaviour and improve their performance against standards and targets, ensuring they are equipped to deliver against all expectations
  • Monitor the ongoing process of the operation, liaising with Operations and other departments as necessary to predict problem areas and develop solutions
  • Communicate, liaise and escalate issues with appropriate members of the SMT, colleagues and other departments where necessary
  • Assist in ensuring that the sites achieve and maintain the targeted level of accreditation through customer and legal auditing processes
  • Assist sites with Technical Support such as gap analysis against customer requirements, interpretation and input into Codes of Practice, support with audits and preparation to ensure consistent improvement of practices
  • Actively promote quality, hygiene, food safety and health & safety standards immediately halting any unsafe working practice and taking appropriate action to remedy
  • Internally working across departments i.e. development, commercial and operations teams to ensure site and customer requirements are met within timescales
  • Build and maintain relationship with agricultural suppliers to improve and manage customer expectations
  • Attend customer and site meetings as and when required to ensure consistency
  • Communicate, liaise and escalate issues with the site teams where necessary
  • Develop and share best technical practice

What we need from you:

  • Background in poultry manufacture – ideally in a senior technical level.
  • Industry recognised Technical qualification – HND/Degree or equivalent
  • Advanced Food Hygiene
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering continuous improvement in technical and food safety standards
  • Experience of managing internal and external auditing processes and requirements
  • Excellent track record of managing teams; building capability, addressing any issues effectively and in compliance with legislative and company policies and procedures
  • Ability to clearly communicate and influence internally and externally at all levels of an organization
  • A high level of flexibility is required and ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment with sometimes conflicting needs and wants
  • Experience of liaising directly with customers (both internal and external) to track, develop and audit quality standards and systems
  • HACCP Certification
  • Lead Auditor or equivalent
  • Self-motivated and highly resilient
  • Experience of working with demanding retail customers
