Job Details

Job Purpose:

To manage the delivery and the scale-up of products from customer approval to factory production in a timely manner; operating with a strong knowledge of factory processes to drive quality and value whilst working cross-functionally to ensure awareness with all key stakeholders.

Main Duties:

  • Manage the critical path once products are approved by the customer through to launch.
  • Meeting the launch date.
  • To ensure the Development process (Stage & Gate) is followed and that each stage is completed, documented and communicated accurately and efficiently through to key stakeholders.
  • Engage with key stakeholders across the site and communicate any issues.
  • Attend site feasibility meetings and highlight any processes that are concerning, require validating or not possible in addition to considering if the product quality can be maintained through scale up.
  • Following the feasibility meeting, complete any trials to assess the feasibility prior to presenting concepts to the customer.
  • Attend site handover meetings once concepts are approved by the customer.
  • Accountable for all elements of the factory trial including raw material sign off, nutritionals, shelf life, travel test, post factory trial costings, trial data capturing, freezing validation, stakeholder attendance, recording and storing details in the relevant documents.  
  • Lead Technical Innovation projects and drive next steps with the site.
  • Objectively assess the team’s performance (formally through personal KPIs and informally) and help them develop PDPs.
  • Review and update the training requirements of the department in line with current legislation and changing departmental operations.
  • Effectively manage time, costs, energy and waste within the department.
  • Organise product panels following trials with the relevant functions to assess the product quality.
  • Validate trials to costings (manning, throughput, yields, giveaway) following scale up and drive improvements where possible.
  • Create factory quality standards.
  • Work with Account Technical to complete all customer Quality Assessment Sheets.
  • Represent the NPD department on the HACCP Team and have a thorough understanding of the site HACCP Process.
  • Attend factory related customer sign off meetings i.e. Gate 4, Technical Handover etc.
  • Keep abreast of new process and packaging innovation and work with the operations team to ascertain future opportunities for the site. Hold internal Factory launch meetings.
  • Work with the Planning department to organise product launches.
  • Attend all launches and customer facing meetings.
  • Drive key EPD projects on site.
  • Consider and validate any process opportunities to improve quality of both existing products and new concepts through a customer-minded development approach.
  • Consider and validate any process opportunities to take cost out of both existing product and new concepts through a commercially-minded development approach.
  • Where product improvements are necessary that do not impact recipe, drive and deliver projects ensuing all stakeholders are kept up to date.
  • Attendance at NPD and Commercial meetings where necessary, run the process segments
  • Ensure the Product Database is kept up to date with accurate information; handover to launch packs are kept up to date and fully complete and accurate ahead of the launch.
  • Attendance at Technical Taste Panels where necessary and identify and drive solutions to issues/challenges raised.
  • Keep up to date with customer changes and development cycles.
  • Understand the competitive environment and The Company’s differentiators

    • Understand the supplier base and respective capabilities
    • Understand the customer’s technical requirements
  • Deliver on key performance indicators including; people, quality, health and safety, environment, cost optimisation and customer service.
  • Challenge processes and practices within the department and suggest improvements where necessary.
  • Effectively manage staff ensuring that compliance with current employment legislation is maintained.
  • Mentor and coach team members.

Requirements, Experience and Person Specification:

  • Actively promotes and delivers improved health and safety behaviors and environmental awareness

  • Operates to the correct working standard
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment
  • Food Safety Level 3 or Higher
  • Willing to be flexible to meet factory timing requirements where necessary

Additional Information:

  • Ability to drive is essential (Full UK Driving Licence). Expected to be available at all the company, supplier and customer sites if required. Overnight and overseas travel may be required.
