An outstanding opportunity is now available for a Product Development Manager (NPD/R&D) to be employed by a well respected food manufacturer that values teamwork and genuine innovation and operates from a modern and highly profitable site. 

The individual appointed will manage New Product Development activities and facilitate professional development opportunities for members of the NPD team. They will supervise project teams and manage a team of Food Technologists, Technicians and Sampling. A key task will be to ensure the assigned functional area meets financial, quality, and service goals.

Other duties include managing the work flow of New Product Development, Process Development, Value Engineering and related projects and tasks. This will include the co-ordination of the validation and up-scaling of new products and improved recipes in several plants. As well as people management the Manager appointed will be expected to demonstrate a ‘hands-on’ approach and will manage their own project portfolio.

The NPD team consists of a mixture of very different personalities at differing levels of experience, all of whom would benefit from clear direction and leadership. Therefore, the ideal candidate really needs to come in and be an enthusiastic individual, looking to grow the department, nurture the team and develop industry leading products. Having an energetic personality would certainly assist as the team work on a large number of diverse projects, and would benefit from coaching, development and motivational leadership.

The Product Development Manager appointed will have budgetary responsibility and will provide support to NPD/R&D team members, Supply Chain, and Sales & Marketing in areas of technical expertise. They will also manage relationships with internal contacts such as Marketing/Product Management, Operations / Plant Managers and Regulatory. External contacts to liaise with will include Customers and Raw Material Suppliers. 

In terms of experience, we are ideally seeking an individual who has worked within the Ingredients, Functional Ingredients or Bakery Applications sector. We expect candidates to have at least 7 years experience within the food manufacturing sector, with at least 3 years management experience in NPD/R&D and experience in production up scaling & and troubleshooting.
