The company, based in Yorkshire and a new client is currently seeking a Head of Technical / Site Technical Manager to lead their Technical and Hygiene Team on site.
The Role:
As the Head of Site Technical, you will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic advice to the technical function on site and will ensure all materials and products, are safe, conform to relevant specifications and are produced in line with customer specifications. You will be responsible for a team of around 10-15 heads in both the Technical and Hygiene functions. You will be responsible for ensuring the factory and its people comply with site GMP, Hygiene and rules in line with the
A large part of your role will be the management & development of your Technical & Hygiene teams, focusing on supporting and leading your team to deliver successful results for the business, in addition to playing a key role in mentoring them to realise their own potential, both now and in the future. You'll be monitoring departmental KPI's and challenging improvement, when required, to ensure targets are achieved and improved.

You'll be a creative strategic leader and truly value a culture of continuous improvement as well as ensuring that the entire factory is a safe working environment and that the department meets all standards. You will ensure the factory is always audit ready and be the key lead in all pre- production runs, trials and first production runs, and lead audits from customers (both announced and unannounced).
You will have knowledge of hygiene and manage a hygiene team including cleaning schedules, micro results, implementing the latest innovations in cleaning on site. You will look across the industry for specifics on how to improve Technical and Hygiene throughout the business and drive the best results in audits forward with the latest implementations.
You will work with other departments and see Technical and Production as one team. Within your role as Technical Manager you will support the wider business and will assist with customer site visits, audits and business reviews. You will be the lead for the HACCP team, drive performance and take responsibility where it is required.
Desired Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have had key experience of working within Fresh Food, Food to go, Chilled or Dairy Products with proven track record leading Technical teams on food manufacturing sites.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Qualification/Bachelors Biology, Chemistry, Physic, covering food science, food technology, or microbiology (or a degree)
  • Essential Fresh/Ready Meal / Food to go Experience
  • Methodical Thought process
  • Teacher/Mentor and Leader
  • Demonstrable leadership and mentoring skills and proven track record of managing people and developing them.
  • Proven experience of managing change within a fast paced Food Industry Manufacturer
  • Food Hygiene Level 4, HACCP Advanced qualification or similar
  • Proven experience of maintaining a QMS and delivering BRC certification
  • With a proven track record of working with the major retailers/food service providers and their quality standards

Key responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing the Technical Team
  • Manage all technical, quality and hygiene functions.
  • To manage the HACCP system for all existing and new processing lines and products and to ensure all site developments are successfully incorporated into this system.
  • Lead all customer audits on site and be liaise and advise on all technical functions with customers and clients

Job Offer

On offer is a generous starting salary dependent on industry experience along with excellent benefits and 33 days annual leave. Bank holidays are worked and taken in lieu. 3% Contributory pension and scope for progression in this ever-expanding successful business.

This role is based in Leeds, and is commutable from York, Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley Halifax, Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Brighouse, Harrogate Ripon, Leeds, Selby, Wakefield, Bradford, Rochdale, Oldham and surrounding areas.
