About the Role
A critical role in the Food Technical & Quality team, reporting to the Head of Technical and supporting the food production teams within our four very busy and very successful factories here at Refresco Beverages UK, based Bridgwater, Somerset.
You will lead the technical systems function making sure raw materials are purchased and our products manufactured, including packaging, in compliance with legal, customer and internal standards and making sure systems and processes are fit for purpose. Of course, apart from monitoring existing standards, you will also identify opportunities to improve the way we do things making us even more efficient!
You will be leading a small team to deliver these services and standards to the Refresco UK business
As Food Technical Manager (Systems) you will make sure our IT systems and technical databases are up to date to allow for effective purchasing, manufacturing and dispatch of all product, make sure all formulations and artworks meet the legal standard, and also ensure that internal documents are up to date readily available, issued and regularly reviewed in line with document control procedures. You will also need to agree packaging specifications.
In addition you will provide system support during customer or third party audits and take necessary action on the required points.
You will also lead the consumer complaints process, investigating and responding appropriately to customers promptly. In relation to this you will provide complaint data analysis highlighting trends and making recommendations to drive continuous improvements of food quality standards.
Your main internal stakeholders will be Demand & Supply Chain, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Finance & IT and your key external relationships are our many suppliers, customers and industry trade compliant bodies.
You will need to have experience of working in a food & drinks manufacturing environment, or possibly FMCG or Pharmaceutical industry sectors, as the role requires knowledge of and working experience with compliance and regulatory standards. A strong working knowledge of IT systems and databases is also essential in this role and you will be able to display evidence of using systems and data to identify issues and trends and making key improvements.
As a company Refresco are very much open to recruiting those with potential for our organisation, so you do not necessarily need to have several years experience in a technical management role to be considered for this, but you will need to illustrate through your CV, application and interviews that you are serious about a career in food quality and that you have taken steps / actions in this direction.
You will need good working knowledge of food science, food law, food safety and also health & safety in a manufacturing laboratory environment. A food science or food technology degree is an an advantage. Professional qualifications in food quality and safety such as HACCP will be a definite advantage.
In addition you will be IT systems 'savvy' an excellent communicator and you will be able to demonstrate that you have built effective and long lasting relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers alike. Of course you will be leading a team so you will need to have strong leadership and management ability.

In the UK, Refresco Beverages UK is based Bridgwater, Somerset, employs 850 people and we run four factories. We produced 750 million litres in 2016. Our target is a billion litres by the end of 2018, and we are well on target to achieve this goal. We work with all the leading UK retailers including Tesco, ASDA, Morrison's and Sainsbury to produce their private labels and with branded customers such as Innocent, Ocean Spray and Um Bongo.
Refresco floated publicly on the Euronext stock exchange in March 2015. In July 2016 we announced the acquisition of Whitlock Packaging in the US, our first foray in to the US drinks market, adding 900 million litres of drinks per annum to our production.
Salary & benefits
£35,000 to £45,000 per annum dependent on experience plus competitive bonus and company pension scheme.
