We know about food!
Tulip Ltd is the UK’s leading food solutions business, supplying all major food retailers, wholesalers and foodservice companies with a wide range of quality products. We provide consumers with a comprehensive range of products in four key mega-categories - fresh meat & sausage, bacon & gammon, cooked meat, and convenience & snacking. Our farm-to-fork operation is unique in the industry, while our strategic framework puts customers, product, efficiency and people at the heart of everything we do, all with a view to growing responsibly. As part of the Danish Crown Group, the largest pork provider in Europe and the biggest exporter of pork in the world, Tulip Ltd is well-placed to deliver its ambitious plans for sustainable growth. If you have an appetite for more, this could be the role for you.
We currently have a new opportunity available for a Head of Engineering to oversee the Engineering functions at the 4 sites within our Tulip Fresh division, (Ashton-under-Lyne near Manchester, Tipton near West Bromwich, Westerleigh near Bristol and Brechin in Scotland) ensuring that all equipment is proactively maintained and budgets and costs are accurately controlled.
Through the Engineering Manager at each site, you will coordinate the implementation of strategic development programmes for the sites’ infrastructure, process and production capability and develop capital investment plans. You will deliver agreed capital investment improvements through projects teams to agreed timescales. You will ensure that all site and legislative requirements for the safe use of equipment, pressure systems and lifting equipment are met and detailed reports on asset performance and accurate maintenance records are available.  You will have a structured approach to equipment maintenance, optimizing costs for maintenance and repairs, PPM plans and organising the Engineering function for optimum performance. Furthermore you will have a good understanding of relevant environmental legislation.  Part of your role will also be to ensure that all financial controls and departmental systems and processes are followed and meet all internal / external audit requirements.
We are looking for someone to take responsibility for ensuring that the Engineering teams have the required level of skills, that a succession plan is in place and that this includes an engaging and effective apprenticeship scheme.  You will ensure good communication and knowledge sharing across the sites in UK and Danish Crown DK, develop KPI reporting and benchmarking across the sites and you will ensure that proactive customer service and continuous improvement becomes a natural behaviour.  You will also be tasked with coordinating the transfer of good proven practises from Danish Crown sites in Denmark through support from technical engineering and pork specialists.
The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and have a passion for achieving exceptional results. You will be highly experienced with heavily automated plants and will have considerable multi-site experience. A degree / HND or equivalent in an Engineering related subject is also essential. A proven track record of managing large teams and diverse technical and engineering activities is also important.
