As Customer Technical Manager at one of the biggest & best fresh food suppliers in the UK you will be responsible for working collaboratively with customers to drive a mutually agreed technical strategy and pro-actively support and drive quality improvement projects/plans. You will be the customer’s Fresh Produce specialist so will need to be able to articulate agronomic and scientific reasons behind any Technical and Quality related challenges. As deputy to the Head of Technical and primary point of Technical contact for a number of the company’s key customers you will need to be able to command respect and have great communication and decision-making skills   

The successful candidate will need to:

  • Understand and help shape customer technical / quality strategies within agreed customer and company KPIs
  • Inform, customers and internal contacts of future legislative changes, preparing and installing any necessary changes to ensure both customer and company businesses remain within Food Law Compliance
  • Review delivered quality to depots and restaurants as well as holding internal quality audits, seeking and delivering corrective action where necessary
  • Working closely with site/field Quality and Technical teams as well as supporting the Procurement and Technical teams with key sourcing decisions
  • Ensure the continued development of all team members by conducting regular reviews and appraisals, setting personal objectives & targets for achievement. Ensure training is ongoing and commensurate to the role in question

Skills / experience needed:

  • Must be an Experienced Fresh Produce specialist preferably cross category, either as a Customer Technologist or at Technical Manager level
  • Ideally some experience supplying Foodservice customers
  • Experience of managing food safety, quality, legality and integrity within customer technical policies and codes of practice
  • Relevant formal qualifications, either a food related degree or certified food related training
  • Knowledge of relevant food safety legislation, implementation of BRC accreditation standards, HACCP and QMS (Quality Management Systems)
  • Knowledge of ethical and sociably responsible trading standards

  • Large Food Supplier sourcing a huge range of products with this role focussing on a comprehensive range of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables
  • 6 Sites across UK, operating 7 days a week – this role will be located in Oxfordshire with travel to hubs around the UK
  • Customers include Large Pub Chains / Restaurants and Food Service Customers
  • Long established business, experiencing rapid growth following expansion

You will also need to have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage, coach, support and develop direct reports
  • Strong self-motivation with a flexible working approach and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent negotiating and influencing skills
  • The ability to cope under pressure and flex with peaks in personal workload as well as support team members in delivering their objectives
