The Operations Manager is responsible for strategic planning of all functions in the organization other than commercial and financial, and for the execution of such strategy through day to day management of site activities. He/she will use technical knowledge to provide advisory input to contribute to the overall strategy of the business that are not under his/her direct area of responsibility.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the safety management plans, safety management organization and reporting systems are adequate to meet the business safety policy that will meet such international standards such as OSHAS:2007
  • Assumes day to day operational responsibility for the safety of the staff, guests and contractors and for the protection of plant, equipment and building as to ensure no negative consequences arise in regards injury, loss or damage
  • Accountable for developing and maintaining manufacturing and supply chain strategies that align with the future needs of the business, specifically market place conditions, distribution requirements, legislative parameters and other external factors to ensure that the business is best placed to meet such future challenges
  • Responsible for ensuring that the business meets the requirements for food safety and food quality criteria that ensures that the business achieves HACCP accreditation, and thereafter reaches and maintains the standards as set by the executive leadership such as ISO 22000
  • Responsible for CAPEX and OPEX budget setting for the production, supply chain, maintenance, product development and quality departments that supports the needs of the business and feeds the budgeted P&L account for the next financial year
  • Responsible for ensuring that the department heads implement relevant controls and measures that track financial variances that are reportable in short term timeframes, such as work order specific food, fuel, packaging and labour cost analysis, cumulative OPEX, utilities and R&M, that best support EBITDA performance
  • Responsible for ensuring that appropriate internal procedures and governance are in place that aligns with the companies’ policies, and to ensure that appropriate measures and controls are in place to prevent non-conformances and avoid exposure to financial and non-financial risks
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the operational aspects of the business continuity plan, thus ensuring that effective mitigation and contingencies are in place to keep the business in the optimum position through such challenges
  • Accountable for the ensuring that adequate inventory controls are in place to ensure that financial losses are not incurred through unrecorded stock movement or loss as a result of breaches in FEFO or process failure
  • Accountable for ensuring that the target for each customer is agreed and signed through the Sales team, and accordingly any performance matches or exceeds such targets as to avoid any financial penalties or loss of customers due to contractual failures
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining the communications management plan for the business, thus ensuring that staff feel engaged in the organization and actively participate in continuous improvement programs that include Kaizen, Safety Observations and Quality Circles which helps create world class standards through empowerment and positive leadership culture

The Operations Manager should possess the following:

  • Excellent English language skills (written and verbal reasoning, writing and verbal skills)
  • 5 years senior leadership experience reporting to GM or MD levels where such time is spent in food manufacturing site of not less than $35m annual turnover
  • Previous responsibilities for manufacturing, supply chain, maintenance, quality and product development of no less than 2 years
  • A food science, engineering or management bachelor’s degree, or any post grad qualifications in relevant subject matter (Six Sigma, Lean, Project Management, Post Grad Diploma)
  • Experience in multi ethnic work forces of no less than 2 years
  • Demonstrable success in leadership of business turn around or start up programs
