Manufacturing Execution Systems Manager

The Business:

My client is an international FMCG Group with an extensive manufacturing operation both in the UK and overseas.

The Role:

  • This role will have responsibility for proactively planning, controlling, coordinating and supporting all aspects of the Group Manufacturing Systems investments that contribute to the Group Manufacturing System objectives delivering performance efficiency, coding compliance, materials and cost control and visual/process  control.
  • The role will have responsibility for executing the group capital portfolio plan for all systems concerned with manufacturing processes. The role will also work closely with Group Engineering, Continuous Improvement, Group Technical and Group Manufacturing functions to ensure alignment with the Group Manufacturing philosophy.
  • The role will have responsibility for certain aspects of support and maintenance of the Manufacturing Systems deployed within Group Operations sites. This will be to minimise the use of third party support providers through providing in-house capability to perform basic systems support round the clock.
  • The role will support and develop the Manufacturing Systems strategy and develop standards for best practice to be adopted by equipment and software providers. This includes keeping up to date with the latest technology solutions in the manufacturing systems arena.
  • The role forms part of a business which recognises the need for change with major growth ambitions and as part of which is highly likely to expand both in the UK and overseas. The role will need to be flexible and provide support as required to capitalise on whatever opportunities arise.


  • Management of key implementation projects with an asset value of up to £2 million per annum.
  • Management of all systems across 15 sites.
  • Six direct reports.
  • Providing third line support for manufacturing systems across 15 sites.

Experience Required:

  • Graduate or of Graduate calibre, with good strong practical experience of project delivery in an IT and manufacturing context.
  • Operated and familiar with implementation of the principles of World Class Manufacturing environments / Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Strong operational grounding within a complex fast moving manufacturing environment.
  • Practical experience of using systems implementation methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of change management principals and application.
  • Demonstrable track record of achieving results / managing change.
  • Good understanding of SAP business systems in a manufacturing context.
  • Strong understanding of MES / Wonderware applications and development tools.
  • Strong understanding of PLC hardware and software.
  • Strong understanding of interfacing techniques used to connect systems such as SAP, Wonderware, PLC software and related hardware.
  • Understanding of relational databases such as SQL Server database management with understanding of key variable data structure for recipe management.
  • Understanding of systems architectures that form the backbone of manufacturing systems.
  • Industrial networks architecture

  • Detailed understanding of software testing techniques and methods.
  • Understanding of methods and approaches to train and coach end users on business and manufacturing systems.
  • Demonstrable track record of achieving results / managing change.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Project management skills from concept to delivery of capital investments.
  • Work under tight timescales whilst maintaining attention to detail and quality of work.
