Continuous Improvement Manager

About the Role

The Continuous Improvement Manager reports to the Factory Manager and works closely with colleagues from the production, engineering and technical teams, using OEE performance to analyse, own and drive forward pragmatic continuous improvement in one of our busy factories.

The role has no reports but you will need to influence others around you and communicate clearly and carefully in order to achieve your goals.

We operate a 'matrix' structure at Refresco. The Continuous Improvement Manager is an important part of the factory team, but is also required to work with other CI Managers in each of our other factories to ensure alignment across the site, and has a strong 'dotted' reporting line in to the UK CI Manager who is responsible for Refresco UK CI strategy and implementation.

Your day to day will be to take issues (using OEE as a basis) and problems highlighted by production and engineering and analyse and own the issue through resolution to implementation of that resolution. You will need to train and coach your colleagues on the factory floor and also document process and procedures to ensure the 'fixes' are maintained and sustainable.

Your more proactive responsibilities include a number of longer term projects , as part of a project team, coaching sessions, and process documentation.

The Refresco continuous improvement system is known a 'PEX' and we employ some lean manufacturing techniques and will increase these going forward.

About You

You will have production or engineering experience, with exposure to continuous improvement, maybe even in a specific CI Management role, gained ideally within a food & drinks manufacturing environment. You will need to demonstrate a working knowledge of CI / lean manufacturing techniques and implementation of resolving issues, and also show how these were sustainable and pragmatic solutions.

You must be familiar with and comfortable using OEE data as this data will be your starting point to analyse performance issues and also how you will measure your success. You must also demonstrate an ability to coach and train others and generally communicate clearly with others.

Our CI team is a relatively new team, the key challenges are aligning CI across the 4 factories on our site, also documenting and developing materials so that processes are robust and followed across the site and create a consistent and sustainable approach to CI.

Aside from strong communication skills you will need excellent influencing skills as you have no reports and we operate a 'matrix' structure, and you will need to be comfortable in what is sometimes an unstructured environment, simply because we have not yet implemented the process. So you will need to be comfortable at times with this lack of process and someone who proactively 'owns' issues , taking accountability for them through to full resolution and documentation. The CI Manager will also need to be mentally agile and able to 'multi-task'.

About Us

Our drinks on every table. That's our vision. So, yes, it's safe to say we're ambitious. We're thirsty for more, constantly looking to the future. To new products, new services, new markets, new customers. Here in the UK, we're well on track to produce one billion litres through our plant annually. Overseas? We already have 30 factories in 10 countries – and we're actively looking to expand our operation.

Head quartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Refresco is the leading European bottler of soft drinks and fruit juices for retailers and branded customers with production in Benelux, France, Germany, Iberia, Italy, the UK, Poland and Finland. In 2016 the company realized full year volumes and revenue of circa 6.5 billion litres and circa EUR 2.5 billion, respectively. Refresco offers an extensive range of product and packaging combinations from 100% fruit juices to carbonated soft drinks and mineral waters in carton, PET, Aseptic PET, cans and glass.

Focused on innovation, Refresco continuously searches for new and alternative ways to improve the quality of its product and packaging combinations in line with consumer and customer demand, environmental responsibilities and market demand. Refresco employs approximately 5,500 staff.

In the UK, Refresco Beverages UK is based Bridgwater, Somerset, employs 850 people and we run four factories. We produced 750 million litres in 2016. Our target is a billion litres by the end of 2018, and we are well on target to achieve this goal. We work with all the leading UK retailers including Tesco, ASDA, Morrison's and Sainsbury to produce their private labels and with branded customers such as Innocent, Ocean Spray and Um Bongo.

Refresco floated publicly on the Euronext stock exchange in March 2015. In July 2016 we announced the acquisition of Whitlock Packaging in the US, our first foray in to the US drinks market, adding 900 million litres of drinks per annum to our production.
