Technical Services Manager





Role Overview

To manage the Technical Services function for the site, this includes; Raw materials management, HACCP, customer specifications and artwork, responding to queries, driving complaint reduction and supporting the business. Through managing these needs, provide both interface and effective communication to enhance customer or suppliers perception of the Company.


Main Responsibilities

Manage the Raw Materials operation on site ensuring all raw materials are assessed for compliance to internal and customer standards from development through to launch. Ensure that raw material compliance is regularly reviewed and approval status is maintained and to ensure information required during 3rd party/customer audits is maintained and available.

HACCP - ensure that there is a systematic, comprehensive system that is implemented and maintained. It is reviewed and updated annually and / or in line with changes to process, equipment or product. Involvement in the evaluation of risks prior to the introduction of and establishment of controls of a new process, product or raw material. 

Effectively manage the completion of finished product specifications to meet critical path and/or customer requirements ensuring right first time.

Effectively manage non-conformance and Customer Complaints which relate to materials ensuring that these are logged, notified to the supplier as appropriate for investigation, with effective response action in a timely manner.

Positively communicate technical issues and updates by the most appropriate communication channels. To collate information relating to food issues / scares and similar events and communicate to Technical Management Team and other key business interfaces as required.

Lead the complaints reduction initiative for the site, encouraging input and commitment from others and agreeing action plans which are then published and monitored for completion and effectiveness.

Support the Technical Manager, Quality Manager and Compliance Manager where help is needed.

Be familiar with Compliance issues and organisation so that urgent requests can be dealt with in the absence of the Compliance Manager e.g. unannounced audit if Compliance Manager not on site.

Operate in a safe working manner and support the site/business on continuous improvement relating to heath, safety and the environment.


A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or an equivalent
HACCP Certificate to Level 3
Lead Auditor training or qualifications
Detailed experience in a similar level role, preferably in the chilled high-risk manufacturing sector
Experience managing and coaching a team
A self-starting pragmatic and can do approach, using initiative to break down problems



Monday – Friday 08.30 to 17.00 with flexibility required to meet business requirements



There is a requirement to conduct 5 – 8 supplier audits a year, which includes paid travel to our suppliers in Europe and may involve multiple night stays.
