Job purpose

We are looking to recruit a Fisheries Assessor to join the fisheries team on a temporary basis to cover a Maternity leave. Conducting audits against Fisheries Standards (including MSC, RFM and IFFO), the Fisheries Assessor will be required to plan and conduct professional audits in accordance with procedures to enable delivery of assessment and services that meet customer requirements.  

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out assessments of applicant fisheries against the standard requirements and accreditation requirements. As travel is key component of the role, the successful candidate will need to hold a valid driving license and be prepared to travel locally and internationally as and when required.

An overview of the main duties have been provided below:

  • To conduct in depth analysis of survey and stock assessment activities/reports, ecosystem dynamics and fisheries effects.
  • Analysis of the overall legal and regulatory management framework, bycatch avoidance methods and gear modifications, and observer and enforcement activities of commercial fisheries.
  • Lead a team of professionals with expertise in various disciplines of fisheries assessment and management.
  • Apply various fish stock assessment techniques and approaches to fishery management. 
  • Preparation of certification reports for fisheries under assessment.

The successful candidate will have 5 - 7 years experience in fisheries and educated to at least a masters level. They will however accept CVs from graduates that have completed up to 2 years on a fisheries related project

This role can be paid on a contract /day rate or salaried.
