Technical Manager

Job Purpose

  • Based in Scotland, reports hierarchically to the ESCo Site Manager, a £50M+ business unit having activities belonging to the Seafood category.
  • Main mandate will be to contribute to the profitable growth of ESCo, through the development & implementation of strong end-to-end quality programs.
  • Represents the authority in designing, maintaining, and continuously improving the Quality Management System (QMS). Ensure that the QMS is customer-driven and exceeds all Retailer/Customer Codes of Practice (COP’s) and requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities 

The Technical Manager will deliver the ESCo supply chain ambition to:

  • Deliver safe products that meet legal requirements as well as, company and customer’s requirements
  • Deliver product quality performances as defined by markets
  • Protect Thai Union chill brands, inclusive of private label brands
  • Stimulate a continuous improvement mindset end-to-end
  • Become a preferred supplier to Thai Union Chilled customers

Key Outputs (80% of role)

  • The primary role and responsibility for this position is to manage and provide leadership to the Technical/Quality Team. It includes, but not restricted to, the following functions for all our activities (i.e. produced internally or co-manufactured):
    • Product regulation management
    • Quality assurance and quality control
    • Food safety management standards
    • Consumer and customer complaints management
    • Total costs of quality
  • Will guarantee ESCo fully respects the product regulation, law & policies
  • Will lead the development and maintenance of internationally recognised Food Safety Management standards such as IFS, BRC, Global Gap, RSPCA, Organic, Label Rouge as well
    as customer – driven QHSE standards
  • Will particularly ensure that products reach consistently the quality standards as defined in agreed specifications
  • Will maintain awareness of emerging EU food issues towards Thai Union Europe entities and concerned suppliers or co-manufacturers
  • Some of these functions are managed in shared leadership with operational teams, worldwide based. The position holder will ensure an active coordination with these teams to ensure that effective and efficient services are provided all times to meet Thai Union Europe Business Unit objectives
  • Will be fully accountable at Thai Union Europe Chilled, and will animate all relevant shareholders to ensure the following indicators are met at agreed levels:
    • Product quality performance to customers
    • Consumer complaint ratios
    • Total cost of quality
  • Will also ensure the development of a talent pool within team regarding QAQS functional and managerial competencies. Will upgrade qualitatively quality organization having more high-potential resources & a stronger succession bench.
  • The Technical Manager will finally be assessed through his capacity to:
    • Define the overall QAQC strategy with a profitable growth objective for ESCO business
    • Step change excellence in QAQC
    • Develop safety first culture throughout all commercial and operational entities
    • Set clear objectives for managing team and the business as a whole
    • Harmonize tools and process through end-to-end supply chain
    • Manage expectations of customers/suppliers and other stakeholders
    • Provide strong leadership and accountability at all levels within the organisation
    • Build customer and external networks at senior level to improve company credibility
    • Develop excellent communication within global functions at Thai Union Chilled

Person Specification 

  • Proven business experience in the food industry – preferably a chilled RTE environment
  • Previous experience of operating at Technical Manager level with extensive knowledge of QSM
  • Degree in a Food science technology, veterinary sciences or a related field.
  • Hold certification in Advanced/INT HACCP, Advanced Hygiene, Lead Auditor and Internal auditing certificate. Proven competent in designing, documenting and implementing QMS
  • Excellent working knowledge BRC V7
  • Strong commercial and business acumen
