Head of Category/Head of Procurement
Occasionally, companies hire for positions which can define careers. They do exist. This is one of them...
A global FMCG business with an international reach that actively lives by its core values, and is governed by meritocracy.
Recent (and pending) acquisitions have prompted our client to expand their procurement function, requiring a new Head of Category to look after a highly complex business category area (where your suppliers are outsourced or 3rd party manufacturers which we refer to a co-packers), incorporating a sizable team and spend.
Of course, your experience is critical – strong procurement skills ranging from strategic sourcing right through to supplier management are imperative. For now, let us assume that you have the right ‘hard skills’ to do the job, no doubt supported by MCIPS or a degree.
In terms of industry experience – any area of FMCG will be considered. The important aspect is how well you know 3rd party manufacturing (or co-pack) – you’ll need to be a bit of a specialist in this space, which means you will probably already be working in the Pharma or Food sector but potentially another area of the FMCG industry.
What we are really looking for is a leader – someone who can genuinely inspire through outstanding interpersonal skills, challenge the status quo and who is able to confidently take calculated risks, using experience and intuition (as well as facts), to deliver solutions. You’ll also be able to effectively nurture key talent to deliver succession plans as the business continues to grow.
It’s a big job, and needs someone who will stand out amongst their peers.
