One of our most premium and most prestigious clients is now looking to bring in a Factory Technical Manager to join a strong and well established team at their site in Kent. A leader in the prepared food industry, the business has just invested over £2m to redevelop part of their site in order to enhance production and drive the company into the second half of 2018.

As the Factory Technical Manager, your role will be to effectively manage the factory technical team, and ensure they provide an excellent service to the production team, whilst also ensuring production’s compliance to procedures. You will represent the factory technical team and take responsibility for the delivery of the team’s accountabilities. Development, maintenance, training and supporting the factory technical team is essential, as this will ensure the business needs are met to the highest standard.

Not only will you have team management responsibilities, but you will also have responsibilities within product quality and safety, making sure that the products produced are meeting food safety, legal quality and customer requirements.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Drive the move from QC to QA culture on site.
  • Ensure that a procedure and schedule is in place and adhered to for quality assessment of products (organoleptic)
  • Ensuring a thorough investigation takes place of any customer complaints
  • Ensure that the Hold & Release procedure is followed, and that corrective actions for held items are implemented promptly.
  • Ensure that the issuing of labels (product, crate or promotional) is controlled and effectively managed.
  • Take an active part in the internal audit programme
  • Have input and approve factory based technical procedures.
  • Ensuring that site is audit ready at all times
  • Involvement in factory waste reduction projects.

A successful candidate for this role will have excellent experience in a food technical role, which should include experience of a high care, ready-to-eat environment and preferably with prepared fresh produce. Previous management of a team would be preferred as you will be supporting and developing direct reports. Experience in high care production of ready to eat fresh produce as well as a history of auditing would be ideal.

The right candidate would need strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. You will need to have a self-organised approach to the role, with the ability to plan a workload and have a flexible outlook in regards to adapting ways of working to support team requirements. A good standard of spoken and written English is required, along with a full UK driving licence, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

This is a really excellent time to join a rapidly growing business with huge plans to expand their business into Europe, as well as the opportunity to progress within the company in the not too distant future.
