Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is looking to recruit a Regulatory Services Officer to deliver Food Safety, Health and Safety and Public Health. This is being offered on a permanent basis and provides cover for the statutory inspections programme. Said inspections are required to provide protection for residents, those working in and visiting the Borough, including the vulnerable young and old from food safety risks.

This job delivers the inspection programme which carries out interventions of the high risk businesses as required by the Service Plan and the Food Standards Agency Audit Outcome. These contracted inspections support the statutory inspection programme for food premises and delivery of the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. All inspections will be completed in line with risk ratings and are required through the Food Standards Agency Code of Practice.

You must be fully qualified in food safety, health and safety, and environmental health but must also have the working experience to back these up. You will be expected to have knowledge of regulatory services legislation and policies as well as investigation procedures. You must be able to demonstrate experience of complex criminal investigations, confidence to deal with establishment closures, and awareness of relevant health and safety requirements.

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. All applicants for this role will require an enhanced DBS check. The Council is an equal opportunities employer. They welcome applications, regardless of race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, age or religion or belief.
