Michael Page are working with a well established Global FMCG Manufacturing Business who require a Process Development Engineer to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to become a member of a group of technical experts consisting of engineers, chemists and research scientists with the goal of continuous improvement.

Client Details

Michael Page are working with a global manufacturing and production business based in Manchester. This particular production facility is at the hub of the UK Food and Beverage Industry. The business is a well established, global business that provides multiple products for the food/drink industry.

Description

Provide leadership with a technical and engineering focus to support the manufacturing operation. This role includes business case development for multiple projects across an Ethanol processing plant. The successful candidate will provide direction for the department aligned with the achievement of the site business plan, PDG business plan and other corporate goals. The person in this role is responsible for project design and implementation and variable cost control in the Ethanol production area. This position also focuses on innovation through the utilisation of continuous improvement (CI) tools, statistical analysis and interpretation of process data, process optimisation and the facilitation of Kaizen events.

Process Development Engineer Key Responsibilities:
  • Identifying opportunities and performing business case analysis and upfront engineering design to address best practice gaps
  • Supporting the manufacturing team to trouble shoot process issues, using recognised problem solving tools e.g. 5Y, Kaizen, Lean 6 Sigma, RCA
  • Assist and support R&D, new initiatives, trials, and eventual implementation of concepts
  • Function as the local process representative to the Starches and Sweeteners Business Unit and be a liaison for peers and PDG members at other locations. Develop a strong technical network within the organisation
  • Become a department technical expert and identify ways to optimise and improve production performance and ensure knowledge is transferred not only locally but also throughout the business
  • Track and control key performance indicators including costs, chemical usage, energy, yields, and operational standards


Profile

The Successful Process Development Engineer:
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Chemical, Food science, Biochemical Engineering or other engineering discipline that has a strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass/material balance and process design
  • Proven production management or engineering experience from a similar solid processing industry e.g. Food, Chemicals or Pharmaceuticals with an understanding of production processes
  • Experience with Ethanol production and fermentation processes would be highly advantageous
  • A focus on process safety at all times
  • Supervisory experience in an operational environment would be useful
  • Practical, hands-on knowledge of Continuous Improvement tools e.g. Kaizen, Lean 6 Sigma, RCA
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others and work with multifunctional teams and personnel
  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives/projects and communicate goals, objectives and accomplishments to a broad audience
  • Project management experience
