The role of Controls Engineer within this manufacturing and production business in Greater Manchester is to be responsible for the maintenance and development of control systems that meet the operational requirements of the business. This individual will have a 'good' level of understanding, regarding control system architecture, industry protocols in terms of both hardware and software.

The client is a well established manufacturer of food products that supplies into many well known retailers, their site in Greater Manchester is going through a steady period of growth and requires a Controls Engineer to join their team.

Description

Controls Engineer Principle Accountabilities:



1) To effectively deliver control system 'uptime' and plant availability through the identification and resolution of both hardware and software related issues.

2) To effectively liaise with both internal and 3rd party Contractor in timely resolution of identified defects.

3) To develop and implement robust housekeeping and back-up procedures aligned with 3rd party specialist contractors (Partners)

4) To liaise as appropriate with Production, Technical departments and where appropriate agreed 3rd Parties to utilise their knowledge and skills to identify problems and implement opportunities for new concept projects.

5) To liaise as appropriate with Health & safety, Statutory Authorities and other parties to ensure proposed projects are fully compliant with all relevant legislative requirements, ACOP's and industry recognised standards.

6) To ensure all Suppliers / 3rd Party Contractors are technically proficient and are fully compliant regarding the provision of up to software back-ups and documentation in an agreed format.

7) To ensure software back-ups, technical documentation is stored in an agreed manner enabling ease of access.

9) To develop recovery procedures covering both hardware and software failures.

10) To ensure training requirements are adequately identified and suitably provided for within the wider engineering team.

11) To formally assess critical spares availability and pending obsolescence across all aspects of control (PC / PLC hardware, drives, sensors, other intelligent devices)

12) To ensure post modification reviews and sign-off are completed as appropriate with all recognised Stakeholders.





Profile



The Successful Controls Engineer:
  • Electrically biased with ideally a plant maintenance background, will be fully conversant with drives, positional control, level and weight measurement.
  • Good understanding of control system architecture SCAD, PLC. Drive Control, instrumentation
  • Self-motivated
  • Effective communicator
  • Highly effective at coordinating 3rd Party resources DENCA, Technique Services etc.
  • Disciplined / methodical
  • Good team player
  • Shares knowledge and supports others
  • This is very much a 'hands on' role requiring an individual who can work effectively on their own, but also as part of a project team including both internal and 3rd party resources.
  • This individual will ideally have some level of formal recognised C I training or as a minimum be able to demonstrate by example a proven ability to deliver structured, sustainable plant / process improvements.
  • This individual will be self-motivated, with an ability to investigate technical issues, identify and deliver 'fit for purpose' solutions.
