Role: R&D Sr. Manager - Global Ingredients

Location: Leicester

Salary: circa £65,000 - £75,000 (depending on experience) plus bonus, car allowance, and other benefits

We are looking for an expert R&D Ingredients Scientist to help build a new strategic capability for our creative and high performing R&D function. You will be a key player in supporting our snacks breakthrough agenda and setting us up for future success. We will look to you to provide novel science and technology insights, generated from a first class understanding of ingredient science. Working within our Global Ingredients team, you will support the building of new capabilities within R&D to understand both current and new ingredients in depth, and their functionality. You will generate awareness around ingredient interaction and craft new opportunities for a novel consumer experience.

We will also look to you to unlock new intellectual property opportunities and deliver sustainable growth for PepsiCo, making the most of your knowledge on ingredients perhaps new to us. The role will provide you with an outstanding platform to forge global relationships within the business, both within R&D and a number of Commercial Functions. So there will be plenty to keep you interested!

Key Accountabilities

  • Through your ingredient knowledge, establish, lead and integrate breakthrough initiatives, resulting in new ingredient & raw material streams across the global snacks portfolio.
  • Collaborate with Functional, Strategy and Platforms, and External Innovation partners to rapidly discern, advance and combine inputs to craft differentiated, proprietary ideas.
  • Partner with Product Discovery and Development teams to build product innovations that are aligned to strategic priorities, unlocked through new ingredients functionalities and crops.
  • Identify and build strategic partnerships with external, state of the art ingredient science and technology leaders, and synthesise insights into transformative and advantaged idea streams for PepsiCo R&D.
  • Define for Global R&D snacks the new ingredient capabilities that will enable a shift to breakthrough, transformative product platforms and consumer experiences.
  • Partner with the Measurement Science group to ensure that suitable capacity and capability is in place (internally and externally) globally.

Key Skills Required

  • Minimum Bachelors degree but ideally PhD or MS in a suitable science-based discipline.
  • Significant experience in at least one of the following industries: Food & Beverage, Food Ingredients, Fragrance / Flavors, Consumer Products, Agribusiness.
  • Shown experience in the development and application of Ingredient science across a range of food or consumer product applications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, talent management and interpersonal skills to build global organization and industry credibility.
  • Excellent understanding of broader business drivers with ability to demonstrate an eye for business and partnering with senior business leaders cross functionally.
  • Highly integrated leader with the ability to influence strategic direction of the organization, while inspiring change throughout the business teams.
