NPD Director - Customer Facing
My client, a market leader in their product field is currently looking for a Head of New Product Development To manage development projects from concept to delivery and be the principal development contact for the projects both internally and externally.
Your main responsibilities will include but not limited too:
•To keep the site management team informed of project progress, highlight anticipated & actual issues as early in the process as possible.
•To ensure that all developments satisfy price, quality, technical & operational parameters.
•To take full responsibility for the development of new & innovative products in line with product briefs. These must be commercial and work in practice.
•To be responsible for overseeing projects through the NPD system from brief to launch including maintenance of accurate & detailed project records.
•Developing and reviewing the NPD process to ensure it meets the needs of the business and customers.
•To liaise with the project leader / lead commercial in order to agree timings for the development elements within the project plan and ensure that they are delivered to achieve the target launch date.
•To ensure all new products are discussed with the Technical team in relation to HACCP and food safety requirements.
•Develop the food culture within the NPD team, channel and wider business.
•Develop innovation through sourcing, process and creative improvements.
•To work with the commercial teams to develop applications for both customer specific and new branded products and suggest potential new concepts to be developed (including involvement in the briefing process).
•Ensuring all new products developed and launched meets relevant legal requirements.
•Arrange hand-over to process development, ensuring that they have all the necessary information & documentation to be able to take the product to launch
•Attend 1st factory trials to ensure correct translation of kitchen concept to factorySign off.
•Work closely with an account manager to ensure that all products meet margin & contribution aspirations
•Educated to Degree / HND level in Food Science / Food technology or related subject with a clear demonstration of ability in this area.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience
•Relevant experience working with and managing a developing a team.
•Track record for driving innovative solutions both at manufacturing and customer finished product areas.
•Relevant experience of working in retail, manufacturing, wholesale, foodservice.
•Self-motivated, tenacious and able to drive performance of self and teams.
•Understands the principles and tools of category management and strategic management
Meat, poultry or seafood experience preferred
