An engineering manager is required at a manufacturing and production business based near Oldham.

Overview:
To support and enable the manufacturing team to work safely to meet the production requirements
To set and demonstrate standards of behaviour which encourages and promotes others to meet their own potential through involvement in decision making and increased autonomy
To establish and maintain an engineering structure and skill base that meets the needs of the site operations

The client is a well established manufacturing and production business based near Oldham. This business has sites internationally and produces a number of products into the ambient food market.

Engineering Manager Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:



Health & Safety

  • Define health & safety performance requirements to ensure KPIs are met
  • Develop a culture that allows and encourages challenge to unsafe acts and behaviour
  • Actively participate in Health & Safety Committees and encourage attendance by representatives from all departments
  • Encourage positive participation in the TOP and ensure that all audits are carried out on time
  • Ensure staff are appropriately trained in all aspects of the role and equipment in use
  • Facilitate completion of corrective actions following TOP and / or other audits
  • Keep abreast of changes in health & safety legislation and consider and mitigate the impact on the site




  • Technical & Quality

  • Develop and encourage a culture of Right First Time
  • Actively participate in the HACCP process and ensure all CCP's are correctly identified and managed
  • Ensure the department is managed enable compliance with requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Ensure equipment is fit for purpose and does not pose a food safety risk
  • Ensure devices are correctly calibrated to facilitate adherence to technical requirements for standard and quality
  • Lead and participate in projects to reduce and eliminate customer complaints and product non-conformances
  • Facilitate the closing out of GMP audit non compliances
  • Facilitate NPD projects


  • Leadership & Management
  • Align the departmental KPI's and objectives to meet those of the site and those of the business
  • Facilitate the delivery of the businesses MTP and Capex plan
  • Clearly communicate the company objectives for both the short and long term
  • Encourage and establish clear, open and unambiguous lines of two way communication between and among direct reports and line engineers
  • Engender a culture of self-reliance and self-belief to improve and increase autonomous decision making
  • Ensure that the departmental culture recognises success but does not characterise setbacks as failure in order not to stifle positive change
  • Establish methods and methodologies of working that are system based yet driven by individual endeavour
  • Develop and control departmental budgets that are both sustainable and deliver added value
  • Maintain an awareness of market and technological developments and apply strategies that allow leading practice to be applied to all aspects of the operation




  • Profile

    The Successful Engineering Manager

    Qualifications:
    • Degree Qualified (Chemical / Process Engineering Preferred)
    • H&S Certificate Minimum (NEBOSH Preferred)
    • Level 4 Food Hygiene
    • Internal Auditor


    Previous Experience:
    • 10-15 years in FMCG Manufacturing (Ideally Food or Process Industry)
    • Experience with project management
    • Lead improvement projects / CI initiatives
    • Managed people through change
    • SMED / 5S / Kaizen Techniques


    Personal Attributes:
    • Strong communicator both verbally and written
    • Strong Leader and decision maker
    • Time efficient / highly organised
    • Excellent presentation skills in support to key decisions being made
    • Can mentor, support and develop other staff
