Supplying to most of the UK leading prestigious Retailer, Restaurants and Hotel chains, this growing business produces a range of luxurious high end ambient products from their manufacturing premises based in Kent.

Currently the site is growing and expanding at a tremendous rate year on year and due to their continued growth, a new role has been created to focusing on food labelling and regulatory compliance ensuring that all products are safety and legal. Reporting to the Regulatory Affairs Manager you will assess the legality of incoming ingredients and packaging materials and review the business and customer labels to ensure they are compliant with UK/ EU regulations.  Where clients are selling into foreign markets you will assist the customer, by reviewing the legality of the products and labels in those markets as far as you are able.

Key Accountabilities.

Ensure that ingredients are permitted in the product within the country in which a product will be sold.  Including compliance with the Novel Food Regulations and where appropriate organic food laws.

Review ingredient specifications to ensure that they are within legal limits for the intended market, for all legislated parameters including allergens, nutritional data (where appropriate), microbiology, pesticides, heavy metals and other contaminants. 

Investigate if health and nutrition claims are permitted for a given ingredient and advise clients of the wording that must be used on pack.

Check labels comply with UK / EU labelling regulations, including the layout and presentation of all mandatory information.  If sold into a foreign country, assist with researching the relevant legislation in that territory and review the ingredient, product or label as appropriate.

Assist the Legal Compliance Manager in other regulatory and compliance tasks as required, such as monitoring regulatory developments, assisting with updates to the internal specifications and quality systems and liaising with clients, suppliers, trade associations, government agencies a design houses/printers.

Personal Profile

  • Experience of working within a similar position within labelling / regulatory affair in food or drink industry.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate directly with customers on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge of UK / EU food regulations, particularly the Food Information to Consumers Regulations; Novel Foods Regulations and regulations relating to product quality control.
  • Degree or in Food Science/Technology, Biology, Chemistry or Food Law or equivalent industry experience.
