The Position                    Quality Assurance Manager Operations (12 month FTC to cover Maternity Leave)

Reports to:                      Quality Assurance Manager

Overall purpose of role

To take responsibility and be accountable for the site Quality Management System, Quality Assurance, and the supervision of the Quality Line Lead

Reporting and key relationships

Reporting directly into the FSQA Manager Dunstable on a day to day basis. This role is expected to be the FSQA Manager’s deputy

Main duties and responsibilities

Product Quality

  • Monitor product quality internally & externally. Ensure that the Bun Scoring at defined intervals are recorded in the relevant systems, and report out of specification material to the FSQA Manager
  • Set up and continuously update product quality checks and enter into QDA for SPC on finished product, i.e. weight, dimensions and slicing at defined intervals
  • Set up and update Eyepro optical evaluation system for product conformance to specification
  • Follow-up and issue Product Non Conformance and Quarantine Procedures as required and update the relevant trackers
  • Validate the positive release and put on hold the NC products with the support of the QLL
  • Initiate Escalation Procedures as required
  • Develop and implement a programme to conduct customer quality panels and internal taste panels
  • Attend ATCQ Bun Scoring sessions at the local DC
  • Implement and manage any other quality checks that may be introduced as directed by the business
  • Maintain and complete customers Quality Attribute Standard
  • Completion and management of customer specification data base

Food Safety & Environmental Monitoring

  • Be responsible for food safety, hygiene and environmental standards  and reports, react to any FS risks
  • To develop and implement systems for the maintenance and control of the Quality Policy Manual and associated documents
  • Ensure CCPs, traceability systems for raw materials, work in progress and finished products, and all other process control parameters are being followed throughout the bakery, suitably monitored and under control, and provide the relevant training
  • Develop, improve and maintain hard plastic & glass register
  • Be responsible for the organization of the internal audits ( GMP, FB, allergen, system, pest…); fully support audit readiness for site
  • Support maintaining the GMP standard according to Aryzta requirements, third part standard, and customers’ requirements. Provide trending, analysis and train the relevant person
  • Initiate suitable food safety related key performance indicators (KPI’s) to enable easy monitoring of food safety compliance and implementation of suitable corrective actions
  • Has full authority to stop a production or delivery, considering NC and release by derogation
  • Log Food Safety NC according to group procedure and be responsible to closing correctives actions   on time, and provide report to the FSQA Manager on time
  • Logging and assisting with the complaint investigation, generate answer and preventive and correctives actions, and provide report to the FSQA Quality Manager
  • To develop and maintain systems for monitoring the quality of raw material and packaging material intake, ensuring quality standards and specifications are maintained
  • Review raw material approval systems and ensure that all raw materials are fully approved from approved suppliers
  • Undertake a formal risk assessment across all products from raw material to finished products and identify any risks of allergen cross contamination and agree suitable testing to validate risk assessment
  • Direct communication with suppliers in relation to complaint investigations, technical data gathering and specification completion
  • To develop and implement an appropriate regime for the microbiological testing of product and environment by dealing with external laboratory and be responsible for the monitoring, update and an analysis of the sampling plan ( microbiological, Environmental, water )
  • Development and Management of nutritional agenda’s
  • Ensuring successful completion of customer reports and complaint responses with details of relevant action plans to demonstrate continuous improvement
  • To develop and implement systems to control recipes and usage of recipes
  • To develop and implement an appropriate regime for shelf-life laboratory testing, ensuring that accurate records are maintained

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the QLL team and provide effective leadership to cover and to achieve a fully functional FSQMS system that delivers safe, Legal and Quality finished products as well as audit compliance
  • Train the QLL and deliver training as required ( induction, GMP, …)
  • Maintain and update the quality management system according to new Aryzta and customers requirements, and applicable standard
  • Prepare data in line with KPI’s for  meetings and group report ( Monthly report )
  • Support the preparation for Internal/ Third part audits (BRC, halal, ..) and Customer visits
  • Responsible for the timely calibrations (MD, scales, probe, …)
  • Understand performance indicators, drive team to meet targets and how to improve when needed
  • Attendance system daily, resolving issues  appropriately
  • Participate in improvements plans

Communication

  • Ensuring effective communication with colleagues and discuss issues with other departments to find quick resolution to problems
  • Using all relevant communication methods including mobile telephone and email
  • Effectively communicate in English (both verbally and in writing), understand requests from all levels and external people
  • Contact the stores / Customers in relation to complaints investigation
  • Report and explain quality and food safety  results  and use group system procedure
  • Effectively conduct handovers to include, issues
  • Spot, report and manage any training requirements link with FS and quality system

Competencies

  • Higher Diploma or Degree preferably in Science subject
  • Familiar with requirements of BRC standard through direct involvement is essential
