Job Title:        Health, Safety and Environmental Manager
Responsible to    Site Operations Manager/Director

Job Purpose

The site Health, Safety and Environmental Manager’s role is to support the management team and give commercial advice on all matters relating to health, safety and environment to support the corporate strategy. Reporting directly to the site Operations Manager/Director they have a dotted line responsibility to the Group Health & Safety Manager and Group Environmental Manager.

Responsibilities/ Objectives:

1.To act as the site competent person providing professional assistance on all matters relating to health, safety, fire and environmental legislation within the industry sector with the guidance from the Group Health & Safety Manager and Group Environmental Manager.
2.To actively support the management team to meet Health, Safety and Environmental KPIs and performance objectives with the aim of improving site safety and commercial objectives.
3.Conduct and complete all site related risk assessments with the support of line management to identify all key risks within the location and make commercial recommendations to reduce such risks.
4.Produce and implement site specific safe working practices with the aim of improving knowledge, skill and attitude which will have a direct effect on reducing accidents or incidents which could lead to financial loss.
5.Carry out and complete specialist risk assessments such as Manual Handling, CoSHH and DSE to ensure that risks are reduced to meet commercial and legislative requirements.
6.Support and assist in the achievement of environmental objectives in conjunction with the Group Environmental Manager and ensure consultation on any environmental impact regarding health & safety processes.
7.To conduct detailed accident investigations and recommend commercial solutions to prevent re occurrences so that management teams can implement to reduce accidents and incidents.
8.Conduct a detailed analysis of all health & safety related training and produce comprehensive training matrices by role to ensure legal compliance for specific tasks that require specialist training with records and refresher training completed as required.
9.Actively monitors emergency procedures and site fire safety arrangements relating to colleague, visitors and contractors in line with fire safety policy and risk assessment requirements to ensure that legal compliance and best practice is met.
10.Undertake monthly site inspections and report on any findings to the management team and deficiencies that may be identified to maintain safety standards and monitor effectiveness of safety policies and procedures.
11.Assist in any colleague training requirements which are specifically related to health and safety or environmental matters and deliver in house health and safety and environmental training programs approved by the Group Health & Safety Manager and Group Environmental Manager to enhance colleague knowledge and improve performance. 
12.Take responsibility for the reporting of incidents classified under RIDDOR to the HSE and follow up any correspondence as a result ensuring that Fees for Intervention are avoided where possible and any commercial disruption
13.Supports the Site Operations Manager/Director by facilitating site health & safety committee meetings and environmental/energy meetings by providing statistical information and health & safety advice on matters raised to provide effective communication to all colleagues, set KPIs or develop energy initiative programs.
14.Produces and maintains accurate site accident data capturing all required information for required Group accident information reports, identifying any trends or multiple colleague’s accidents and taking positive action with the management team to reduce them.
15.File and maintain health & safety documentation which is required for inspection by external auditors or HSE/Fire Authority inspectors in a logical and organised manner ensuring that records are updated and replaced in line with Company changes and updates.
16.Collect and prepare information for insurers in relation to civil claims received ensuring that all relevant documentation is presented for review to assist in establishing liability within the legal time frames specified to reduce costs.
17.Identify the need for first aid training and provision and ensure that there are sufficient first aid supplies at site, monitoring condition and availability to enable the site to deal with first aid emergencies.
18.Support site maintenance team to ensure that all statutory inspections are completed and PPM programs are up to date to ensure that all machinery is safe to use in line with legislative requirements.
19.Actively assists in the monitoring of contractors on site and the control of the permit to work systems for high risk activities to prevent serious injury, damage to plant and loss of production ensuring that all contractors are approved and have the necessary health & safety requirements.
20.Operate to the terms and conditions of the sites PPC / EA licence.
21.Develop and maintain the environmental management system for the site.
22.Maintain the site to the ISO 14001 environmental standard. 
23.Responsible for the investigation and reporting of all environmental incidents in line with relevant legislative and company requirements.
24.Accountable for driving Environmental related information where the job holder is aware of potential site risks and provide an action plan to management for resolving such issues.
25.Conduct a detailed analysis of all Environmental related training and produce comprehensive training matrices by role to ensure legal compliance for specific tasks that require specialist training with records and refresher training completed as required.
26.Responsible for the performance and development of those individuals reporting to the role holder, ensuring that performance related feedback is given.  Ensure that all team members adhere to company policies, legislative requirements and customer trends.

Candidate experience:

•         Ideally Food background (protein)
•         NEBOSH diploma (preferred). Will also look at NEBOSH certificate
