Service Delivery Manager

The Role:

You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth, cost effective and legally compliant running of transport operations. Health and safety will be a key part of the role and you’ll need to be proactive in ensuring all relevant legal and company regulations and policies are followed.

The Driver Team will report directly to you on a day to day basis. The business is deploying technology such a Route Optimisation and Telematics platforms in our current phase and you will need to demonstrate your experience in using those to the best effect, whilst coaching your Driver team to deliver a best in class performance for themselves and the business.

You will ensure that all ‘O Licence’ requirements are adhered to, while making sure all vehicles are meeting company regulations – removing non-compliant vehicles form the road and quickly arranging the necessary repairs.

You will also be able to conduct regular performance appraisals for your team, identifying and arranging the necessary training to help them develop. Recruitment of high performing Drivers to improve service delivery performance is always on your agenda and coaching of our current team to be better is a standard day to day task.

Principle Accountabilities include:

  • Deliver an industry leading customer service by creating a strong team culture with your Driver group. A team that works effectively with other areas of the organisation and delivers a best in class service to our Customers.
  • Operating across three main shifts, you will have the ability to deliver in each of the shift roles as required, from early morning dispatch to later evening debrief – you will ensure our processes are carried out effectively in line with business requirements
  • Ensure effective communication processes are established and maintained with your Driver group – Coaching, Managing, Recruitment & Training as required to job satisfaction
  • Control and manage costs and meet KPI’s set down by the business. Take part in creation of those KPI’s and building the processes with the team to achieve them.
  • The function is evolving and needs improvement in key areas, you can identify our challenges and provide sustainable solutions and ideas for the Team to implement change
  • Ensure full compliance to all relevant transport legislation and regulations, promoting a strong safety culture
  • Root cause any customer complaints to seek resolution and prevention of future issues

Principle Accountabilities include:

  • Working with Route Optimisation & Telematics systems, you will demonstrate your experience in using such systems to best effect for the Customer and the business
  • Complete on Route training with your Drivers, going out to meet our Customers and solving real operation issues that happen in the field to best effect
  • Deputise for the Distribution Manager when required, to learn to aid your natural progression with in the function

Skills / Experience include:

  • Experience working in similar roles within the Logistics industry, preferable in temperature controlled, multi drop environment.
  • Proven track record of improving customer service levels within tight budgetary constraints
  • A good record of managing or supervising transport teams and bring able to recruiting talent, coach, mentor and maximising development opportunities.
  • Brilliant communication skills both verbal and also, ability to document ideas and initiatives
  • You will have a good knowledge of all transport legislation and regulations
  • A high desire to ensure the safety culture is paramount to the operational day to day working of the site.
  • High level of IT literacy on all standard business applications (Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Fleet management skills – Supplier, maintenance, safety
  • SAP ERP system experience a major advantage but other systems may suffice
  • Experience of Route Optimisation software deployment in the London region an advantage
  • Experience of Telematics & EPOD software deployment in a Transport function an advantage
  • Experience in early morning (4am starts) & late evenings (9pm finish) an advantage
