(Mostly Conwy site and occasionally at Bangor site).
Salary: Set Point: £23,000 per annum
Hours of Work 39 hours per week (Typically 08:00 – 16:30 / Mon - Friday)

The Grwp Llandrillo Menai Food Technology Centre, in collaboration with Food Innovation Wales, has a series of fixed-term full-time and part-time positions for Knowledge Exchange Affiliates to work within Small to Medium Enterprise (SME) companies in the food manufacturing sector in Wales.
The Affiliate will work with Industrial Supervisors in approved partner organizations to support projects in a range of areas within this sector of the Welsh economy.
This project provides an opportunity to work in partnership with Traditional Welsh Sausage Company and the Food Technology Centre.

The Food Technology Centre offers technical support, NPD services and training to the food industry. http://www.foodtech-llangefni.co.uk/
The aim of the project is to:
To assist in the implementation of BRC V8 at both TWSC sites (Conwy and Bangor). The project will involve creating a gap analysis against the new BRC standard V8 for each site. This will include a variety of audit formats to assist with closing those gaps in the system with the aim of getting both sites fully compliant and accredited.
This will be done with the assistance/ support of, and in conjunction with the business Technical Manager. The role will involve a number of technical duties which will help maintain the site(s) compliance against food safety, quality and legislative parameters and help drive improvements against a suite of technical KPI’s.
The successful applicant will receive support and training as part of this 24-month HELIX Affiliate programme, largely based at Traditional Welsh sausage Co. Ltd sites in Conwy and Bangor, North Wales.
Beyond the two years (subject to satisfactory performance), employment would be continued as a full-time employee of the Traditional Welsh sausage Co. Ltd.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
 To analyse existing industry practices within the Industrial partners’ premises and implement interventions that aim to improve business operations.
 To effectively communicate and report on steps needed to embed improvements within the industrial partners’ premises in accordance with good management practice and in compliance with relevant legislation and industry technical instructions.
 To efficiently implement systems via a variety of methods, using a structured approach and to an agreed timetable in line with business objectives.
 Develop and deliver a programme to embed the principles of the new methodologies to be adopted.
 To review the NPD process, look at the current market and create new product concepts ready for commercial production.
 Undertake a formal evaluation of the project.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
 Implementation of the HACCP system
 Implementation of the Quality Management System
 Auditing of Good Manufacturing Practice & processes, to include factory environment, staff facilities, exterior & fabrication of the building, and product quality audits
 To ensure intake raw materials and paperwork adhere to specifications
 To ensure that provenance of materials is as required
 Ensuring traceability procedures are followed within the factory
 Carrying out forward and backward, & mass balance traceability checks
 Glass and plastics checks
 Allergen control and verification, ensuring the pre-requisite programme is followed
 Species control, ensuring that cross contamination does not occur when producing products with different species
 Environmental swabbing, ATP, Hand Swabbing, sample collection as per the schedule
 Hygiene Standards verification and sign off
 Packaging Specification checks (On delivery and in production), when required
 Implementation of corrective action when required
 Monitoring of CCP’s within the factory
 Carrying out taste panels V’s documented quality standards of the product range
 Liaise with the NPD process to ensure that new products are integrated into the site food safety controls and quality system.
 Assist with third party audits and customer visits
 Training of site personnel
 Internal Auditing
 QAS compilation and implementation
 Specification collation and review process
 Supplier approval and monitoring

PERSON SPECIFICATION
QUALITY SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN

Qualifications (Essential):
HNC/D or above
Or
Experience at technician level within the food industry within quality assurance/ control, new product development, or production.
Qualifications (Desirable):
BSc (Hons) or above in a relevant science subject (e.g. food science, microbiology etc.)
A driving licence or access to transport
Knowledge (Essential):
Project specific knowledge relating to themes within the Scheme (e.g. food safety/microbiology, technical systems, new product development etc.)
Knowledge (Desirable):
Understanding of statutory requirements and their impact upon the working environment.
Skills and Abilities relating to role (Essential):
Computer literate, including, information searching, using databases and spreadsheets.
Skills and Abilities relating to role (Desirable):
Interpersonal skills to relate to a variety of professionals and food manufacturing personnel in a multi-cultural environment.
Experience paid / unpaid (Essential):
Relevant industrial experience is essential if the education / qualification specifications are not fully met. Experience may include sector specific or exposure to food or food related industries.
Experience paid / unpaid (Desirable):
Industrial work experience in the food industry.
