Reporting to the HR BP, you’ll work closely with line managers and the HR team to set the annual training plan for the site, at the same time as looking to the future and growing capability among our operational teams.  You’ll have an exciting opportunity to make your mark and demonstrate your passion for delivering high quality training.

So as well as ensure the annual training plan is on track, we will need you to keep an eye on emerging needs, challenging our thinking and helping us grow the function.

Main responsibilities

As lead for all training activity on site we’ll be looking for you to effectively plan and manage our annual training investment, covering all our compliance, operational and mandatory training. You’ll ensure that we deliver good quality training and all our employees have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their work effectively and safely.

Working with line managers and managing the shift trainers, you’ll oversee all our operational training, making sure our colleagues are working in accordance with the standard operating procedures and have the knowledge and experience to do a great job. You’ll also work closely with your HR colleagues to build the capability of our first line managers, equipping them to succeed.

A key part of your role as Site Trainer will be to ensure delivery of the annual plan, but you’ll also need to think about the future, so you’ll be managing both the annual plan and current year’s budget, at the same time as forecasting future needs and influencing the agenda further ahead.

You’ll play a key role in welcoming our new starters, delivering the company induction and ensuring they are trained to be competent to complete their role. As a key source of knowledge on site you’ll be looked upon to coach and guide line managers in the use of our various people tools, such as our award winning Line Manager Framework and a wide range of tools and resources. You’ll also help us to be creative with our training, ensuring we get the right balance of 70-20-10 learning.

As custodian of training on site, you’ll also need to ensure that training records are maintained, skills matrices are updated and line managers can quickly and easily understand the skills profile of their team. This is a critical part of maintaining our BRC accreditation. You’ll support line managers in the development of their teams, but we also need you to ensure that standards are maintained, so you’ll be involved in auditing and education of line managers too.

Finally, in support of our divisional HR strategy, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in exciting projects, partnering with team HR to drive greater consistency across our sites

Ideal candidate

You’ll have experience of working in a similar role, ideally within a manufacturing environment and as such have a working knowledge of production processes.  You’ll have completed Train the Trainer or PTLLS and be proficient in the use of computer systems and familiar with learning technologies such as Learning Management Systems, performance appraisals systems etc.

You will have a proven ability to prioritise a busy workload with the ability to meet deadlines and targets alongside a strong attention to detail and passion for quality. 

You’ll have excellent communication skills, an ability to engage with and energise people and the confidence to deliver training programmes across a variety of levels.
