Are you a passionate and process driven individual with excellent engineering skills?  Do you have experience with refrigeration, managing contractors and maintaining pressure, combustion and air systems? 

We are currently recruiting for a Utilities & Site Services Engineer based at our site in Northampton.

Main responsibilities

•Ensure that the generation and distribution of all utilities such as refrigeration, steam, water, compressed air, etc.  are safely, reliably and efficiently delivered, enabling high performance operations, while ensuring protection of the Environment.

•Develop KPIs for site utilities

•Manage the operation of refrigeration plants in compliance with local regulations and Greencore standards.

•Process Safety Management: Where applicable, comply with PSSR regulations

•Ensure the protection of all hazardous areas with adequate ammonia leak detection and related safety elements at minimum

•Plan and drive ammonia safety audits on a risk-based frequency. Implement daily checks and action plans in the fixed time lines

•Manage the Refrigeration contractors

•Ensure prevention of abnormal operating conditions that could lead to ammonia/other incidents

•Comply with legislative policy on the use of Natural Refrigerants

•Ensure that corrective and preventive maintenance tasks are performed as planned in Mainsaver (start added them) for Refrigeration Systems (NH3 & others).

•Participate to all factory projects involving Utilities making sure they comply with above local regulation and Greencore requirements.

Hygienic Air Handling:

•Ensure all HAH systems are operating and maintained in compliance with OEMs Manufacturing Instruction Documents

•Ensure compliance with external and internal mandatory requirements applying to pressure systems and industrial combustion systems including those relating to inspections, maintenance, efficiency, emissions, food safety, water quality management etc.

•Ensure regular safety tests, inspections, maintenance etc on pressure systems, combustion systems, air heaters, DD Ovens etc. systems etc are performed in a timely and effective manner.

•Optimise the operating cost of above systems

•Manage certification, qualification, training and development of subordinate staff including the regular review and update of the thermal skill matrix

•Ensure compliance with external and internal mandatory requirements applying to Water use, Water resources, Storm water, Industrial and sanitary waste water

•Ensure the safety and quality of Water from the source to all final users through HACCP, QMS, Sampling plans and Analyses (you will need an introduction to external contractors)

•Ensure that Water Mapping and Monitoring activities are in place/evaluate •Manage Water Reduction, Reusing and Recycling activities (or identify) Evaporative Cooling Units Steam Boiler Units Waste Water Treatment Plant (DAFs/Others) Rain water Harvesting

•Manage open loop and close loop water system in compliance with equipment specification and internal requirements

•The Prevention Control and Monitoring of Legionella in Water Systems, Managing Closed-loop Water Systems.

•Manage and control Water Treatment Chemical Supplier activities ensuring reliability of results, proper equipment protection and compliance with applicable regulations, ensure that the chemical used for Industrial Services water treatments activities are on the NSF product as an example

•Budget Management:

•Prepare appropriate budgets, ensuring the budget covers plant priorities and understand the limitations of the budget with respect to efficiency targets

•Routinely review the budget priorities during the year in order to achieve a zero variance at year-end

•Identify major replacement requirements for the Capital Investment Budget and Long-Term Plan to ensure long term efficiency.  Submit any proposals opportunities for future capital investment

Ideal candidate

Excellent Engineering electrical and mechanical skills 

Experience with refrigeration 

Experience in managing contractors 

Maintaining combustion, pressure and air systems
