The job

This is an interim Laboratory Manager role, where the purpose of your role will be to manage the set up a brand-new microbiological laboratory, from designing the layout through to operation.

You will ensure laboratory quality standards meet safety and legal requirements, carry out staff training and induction, define working procedures and processes, ensure all required testing equipment is present, working and calibrated, ensure the laboratory is capable to carry out all required functions including testing of raw materials and finished products, carry out laboratory system audits, liaise with all external contractors/suppliers as required and regularly document and report on progress, non-conformances and issues to the senior management team.

Your experience

You will preferably be a degree holder in a microbiology, food or similar scientific discipline plus have a strong track record of working in a food microbiology/laboratory environment, most ideally within chilled, high-risk products. You will have a high level of accuracy and numeracy, be self-motivated and well organised plus have the ability to interpret and evaluate results. Previous supervisory or team leading experience would be preferred.

The Laboratory Manager job is based in the West Wales region and is paying a £30,000 - £38,000 according to individual skills and previous experience. The working hours are Monday to Friday, office hours.

This is an interim contract with a duration of 6-12 months.
