Interim Head Of Export 
Initial 6 Month contract  - Possible £Day rate
Immediate Start 


This is initially an Interim post for 6 months but could extend and possibly could even go permanent. Part of the role will be to hold and manage the Export department whilst they look to move the Export function to Europe. They are looking for someone who is experienced in Export and sales but not after anything too strategic at this point. The position may go on longer than six months but it will eventually be based in Europe. The main markets they currently operated in are Germany, Holland, France, Italy and Spain.

Purpose of job

To manage, develop and exceed Export/International divisional financial objectives measured across Revenue, Gross Profit, Expenditure and PBT. To set and implement strategic development objectives for the Export/International division in conjunction with Board to annual and 5-year plan.  To manage and develop teams both internal and external to achieve and exceed personal and divisional objectives.

Key output

-Divisional financial objectives achieved to budget.
-Defined key customer/market commercial and financial objectives achieved to budget/plan.
-Defined key brand commercial and financial objectives achieved to budget/plan.
-Market/customer portfolio managed via Agent (Ventas) performance to budget/plan.
- internal teams – Finance, QC/Technical, Transport, DC, and Supply Chain – aligned to Export/International Division requirements and objectives.
-5-year plan in place, active and updated/reviewed in line wit requirements.

 

Principal responsibilities

-Divisional business objectives delivery as above.
-EU region Strategic development plan in conjunction with Board.
-Key market development strategy and plans identified and in place – currently defined as France, Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Spain.
-Key brand development strategy and plans identified and in place 
-New Product Development for International markets in conjunction with UK Marketing
-New market development.
-Management and personal development of own team/reports.
-Management and direction of  European Agent (Ventas).
-Management and development of business in France (Maxi Sec) – personal responsibility
-Management of procurement forecast for Export/International product sales.
-Key authority relating to product compliance and regulatory matters both in the EU and other markets served, in conjunction with customers, Agents, DIT, Chambers of Commerce.
-Alignment of operational and category structure to the International business in conjunction with departmental heads.
 

Performance measures

  • Revenue, Gross Profit, Expenditure (A&P) and divisional PBT to budget.
  • Key market/customer commercial and financial performance to budget.
  • Key brand performance to budget.
  • Customer service levels - OTIF.
  • Customer cash payables/collection to terms.

Education and experience

  • Degree-level or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ FMCG experience at mid-senior management level, managing international markets via distributors and/or agents and/or directly.
  • Accustomed to working with, and negotiating at, Board / CEO / Business-owner level.

Key competencies

  • Strong commercial and financial acumen
  • Self-motivated and a decision maker, while cognisant of risk.
  • Time and project management – ability to identify and action priorities.
  • Proficient in Budget management and analysis of ROI (Sales & Marketing expenditure).
  • Good understanding of product compliance and regulatory framework relating to Food and Drink, notably in the EU.
  • Good understanding of International logistics and processes.
  • Strong IT literacy – experience using SAP an advantage.
  • Strong empathy and appreciation of other cultures and environments.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change a significant benefit.
  • Accustomed to, and possessing the gravitas for, working as a member of the Senior Management Team.

Desirable

  • Proficiency in one or more European languages in addition to English – German or Dutch desirable.
  • Flexibility to work occasional long hours/weekends.
  • Location within reach of Welwyn head office and an international airport.
