Our client, a large well established Food Manufacturer, is currently looking to add a Slicing Shift Manager to the team at their South Yorkshire site.

Reporting directly to the High-Risk Department Manager, the successful applicant will be expected to develop, review and deliver departmental objectives through a process of leading, coaching, and challenging as well as actively support and deliver change-oriented activities and projects on your shift. 

Additionally, you will be constantly working to demonstrate tangible and sustained KPI improvement under the five manufacturing pillars; Quality, Value, Innovation, People and Sustainability.

Key Activities Include;  

  • Manage slicing operations,

    • Responsible for driving Actions and Improvements in Slicing tier meetings

    • Identify and implement process improvements

    • Planning and controlling change in process

    • Actively pursue strategic and operational objectives to grow efficiency of existing organisation processes and procedures, in order to enhance internal capacity

    • Effective labour management

  • Managing Quality assurance delivery

    • Implement and maintain and improve quality assurance protocols

  • Monitor and analyse the current slicing operation, measuring and monitoring efficiency and identifying opportunities for process improvement

    • Reviewing design, planning and control of performance improvement and operations strategy

    • Researching new methods of achieving slicing efficiencies

    • Support the yearly profit improvement plan (PIP)

    • Manage data collection and timely delivery of information

  • Reviewing set budgets and monitoring costs

    • Overseeing flow of process to deliver costed labour

    • Conduct short term labour management control and regular reviews to Manager

  • Supervise hiring and training of employees

    • Developing engagement plans

    • Ensuring training plans, PDP’s and Staff Appraisals are in place

  • Maintain up and down communication with management, staff and vendors to ensure correct operation

    • Collaborate and grow relationships with other heads of department enforcing and encouraging inter departmental relationships and team work at all levels

    • Provide leadership, motivation, and support for direct report teams and other functional teams with relationship to departments – includes career development plans for direct reports

Applicants must hold or be working towards level 4 certificate in food safety, be fully conversant with all relevant site/area polices and procedures including customer codes of practice. Have a proven track record in cost control, health & safety (IOSH), management of quality systems, lean manufacturing principles and managing large teams.

We are looking for a strong team player who can demonstrate strong leadership and motivational qualities to create a high-performance culture where improvement suggestions are encouraged and rewarded. The ability to interact with customers and problem solve in real time are essential requirements of the role.

Hours of work are following a continental (Caravan) Shift pattern (3 off, 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on) benefiting from a permanent day shift and having every other weekend off. Hours of work are 5.30am-6pm. Managers start up and handovers form part of the standard contractual hours.
