Responsibility for ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures are in place for all areas of hygiene, safety and environmental management for an incredibly well known chilled food manufacturer.

Using the highest quality ingredients available, this company was set up with foodies and busy families in mind. Due to continued success and an expansion of this role, my client are now looking for an experienced HSE candidate from the FMCG sector to join the team.

Description

The key responsibilities of the Safety and Environment Manager are:
  • Main point of contact for all regulatory bodies and legal authorities
  • Ongoing management of the safety management system, ensuring a process for assessing and managing risk associated with activites across the site
  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of everyone who works for or visits the site- through appropriate policies and training
  • Lead and manage the Hygiene team, instilling best practices to ensure the best use of labour and utilities
  • Adhere to KPIs (labour, waste, delivery of improvements in environmental impact)
  • Maintenance of necessary documentation
  • Regularly review and update policies and procedures in line with changes and operational activity, legislative requirement and best practice; to include: regular internal audits, ownership of high risk H&S related tasks, managing investigation into accidents/incidents, working collaboratively with teams on project activity, deliver/coordinate training on H&S related issues
  • Maintain work instructions and SOPs, CCPs and record all hygiene processes and procedures
  • Maintain stocks of PPE and disposables
  • Liaise and build relationships with external contractors
  • Manage fire safety policy
  • Produce reports on fire safety risks, ensuring all fire incidents, near misses and false alarms of fire are swiftly reported and recommendations and timescales are adhered to
  • Maintain the security of people, premises and equipment, recording and reporting incidents swiftly
  • Design and Implement an environmental management system including regular review and updating of policies and procedures in line with changes in operational activity, legislative requirements and best practice
  • Manage the implementation of a formal waste management system to manage the streamlining of waste, reduce waste to landfill and effluent discharge


Profile

The successful Safety & Environment Manager will:
  • Have demonstrable experience of working in a H&S management role in food production or a similar organisation- including developing and implementing policies
  • Experience of waste management
  • Experience of managing a budget, including forecasting and reporting of expenditure
  • Previous responsibility of being named competent person for safety, including being the point of contact for external professional bodies
  • Degree educated ideally
  • NEBOSH diploma (or similar) is essential
  • Accredited IEMA (The Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment)
  • Food Hygiene Level 3
  • COSHH trained
  • Analytical thinker and experienced at route cause analysis and problem solving
  • Driven, tenacious and adaptable
