LABORATORY MANAGER

To support the growth within the technical department at Frampton’s, we are recruiting for a Laboratory Manager.

Reporting into the Compliance Manager, the Laboratory Manager will lead and mentor a team of 5 staff.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • To supervise the analysis on processed and finished product samples, ensuring that the testing is completed accurately & on time
  • To ensure result records are completed and any out of spec results are escalated & reported to managers
  • Working with our contract Laboratories to complete the required testing, setting up new testing requirements and resolving any issues that may arise
  • Carry out monthly performance reviews with the relevant contract laboratories
  • Maintain a high level of housekeeping within the Laboratory and its associated areas.
  • To supervise testing of all engineering service waters so that necessary dosage adjustments and control can be advised.
  • Communicating with all levels of the business and dealing with any problems that may arise
  • Manage the positive release system ensuring certificates and reports are issued for specific customer processes.
  • Manage the schedules for servicing, calibration and maintenance of the laboratory equipment
  • Carry out internal audits within the laboratory and on occasions audits within the factory
  • Manage numerical data to provide various trend analysis required, for information purposes and audits
  • Manage staff rota to ensure adequate cover at all times
  • Manage the laboratory budget & ensure systems to recharge costs are effective

Decision Making & problem solving:

  • Make decisions & solve problems to ensure that the laboratory operates as an efficient process
  • Support on the course of action needed to be taken in the event of non-conforming results of microbiological or Chemical analysis, taking into account all food safety, hygiene and customer requirement.
  • Support on the course of action following customer audits and complaints thus meeting the needs of the customer and Frampton’s

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate will have experience of working in a similar role and therefore will be aware of the expectation to be professionally mature and be able to demonstrate the ability to influence and motivate others within the business.

The jobholder leads a dedicated team, they will support the course of action needed to be taken in the event of non-conforming results of microbiological or Chemical analysis, taking into account all food safety, hygiene and customer requirement. He/she will also support on the course of action following customer audits and complaints thus meeting the needs of the customer and Frampton’s

Background:

  • Technical food manufacturing and processing understanding
  • Experience of microbiological and chemical testing
  • Experience of Quality Management Systems
  • 5 years experience in the food industry.
  • Experience in analytical or microbiological laboratory experience.

Location:

The role is based full time in Shepton Mallet, Somerset

Salary:

£30,000 to £35,000 per annum, dependant on experience.

Hours of work:

Monday to Friday; 8.30am to 5.00pm with a half an hour unpaid lunch break, equating to 40 hours per week.

A degree of flexibility will be required to support the needs of the Business. There is also a requirement to provide bank holiday cover.

A high level of attention to detail is required. This position requires self-motivation, with an ability to work well within a team. The role requires good communication and organisational skills, as well as being able to work to deadlines with a logical and methodical approach.
