This business has been able to secure more business & develop new products for key retailers. To cement their success, they have invested in new equipment & increased the site capacity. As a Controls Engineer you will be part of an established team, providing innovative solutions to Process, Re-Engineering & Continuous Improvement projects, with specific reference to Control, Instrumentation & Electrical Systems.

You have the chance to join a growing food manufacturing business that have invested heavily in new equipment & new products. As a result of their expansion, they need a Controls Engineer to be based from their site in the Shropshire area.



Description

This business needs a Controls Engineer with an electrical bias who will be working as part of a team, managing & controlling projects onsite. This is an exciting opportunity to be able to interact cross functionally in order to provide innovative solutions to process & CI in line with overall business goals. You will also be required to work alone as well as part of a team & some key responsibilities include:
  • To assist in defining and implementing Instrumentation and Control Engineering Standards across all processes and auditing these Standards to ensure compliance
  • To specify, design, purchase and supervise the installation of instrumentation and control systems including: programmable logic controllers (PLC), electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical equipment, ensuring legislative compliance and in-line with all relevant Instrumentation and Engineering Standards
  • To give technical assistance to production and engineering departments in all areas of instrumentation control, electrical and electronic systems
  • To assist in development and implementation of standards and systems to promote continuous improvement in the project execution process and ensure legislative compliance in all areas of expertise
  • Major CAPEX projects, across all functions, involving electrical and control systems are estimated, specified, designed, constructed and installed, taking responsibility for budget, timescale, scope and HS&E requirements.
  • Software is developed for all control system applications, including PLC's, HMI's and computer systems to ensure maximum productivity from plant affected
  • Support existing electrical, instrumentation and control systems and ensure requests for change/assistance are satisfied in accordance with existing standards to ensure production is maximised and all modifications are recorded/approved. The control engineer has a responsibility to recommend improvements or replacements which will improve reliability, safety or production
  • Provide technical assistance and training to engineering across all functions with respect to electrical, instrumentation and control systems. This will enable other members of the engineering team to provide day to day support for such systems
  • New systems/methods of working are pro-actively sought/developed to improve the project execution process and are implemented across all project functions
  • Liaison with Business IT Management to ensure continuity and compatibility with Process IT




  • Shift Pattern: Days based role - flexibility is essential as demands require

    Profile

    A Controls Engineer with experience in a fast-paced, FMCG manufacturing environment (ideally food). The successful applicant will have:
  • Degree in electrical and electronic engineering (or equivalent) is essential to the role
  • Experience with PLC Systems (Allen Bradley & Rockwell) - ability to fault-find
  • Ideally project engineering and management experience
  • Previous use of project engineering tools and techniques
  • Practical experience and knowledge of HS&E legislation in the workplace
