Why work as part of our NPD Team?

You’ll lead a small team of two based out of our Edinburgh bakery and report into the group Head of R&D. Great tasting biscuits don’t happen by accident and you will take responsibility for making this happen. A key focus will be managing the site R&D agenda which will cover Innovation, NPD - including product & pack changes. You will be responsible for ensuring all technical R&D documents are completed for new products and processes for commercial scale up’s & bakery trials.

A key part of this role will still be very hands, which will see you taking new baking specification briefs, these could be completely new bakes or be a slight alteration in an existing recipe. Ensuring prototypes and created to high quality spec on time. Working with the bakery team to help resolve baking technical issues during production (these can be sensory, chemical analysis, or shelf life testing).

You will get to try lots of new and exciting things, in our very own R&D bakery onsite, every day will be a new adventure in baking tasty treats.

What are the key ingredients needed for the role?

To be an NPD Manager for Burton’s Biscuits we are looking for someone to have a Food Science, Food Technology or relevant science related degree.

Previous experience as an NPD Manager where you have managed the scaling up process for a commercial manufacturing operation. Experience of working in a commercial manufacturing environment where baking has been a key element in the manufacturing process (this doesn’t have to be food related but would be ideal). Also key experience of understanding the packaging process of finished consumer product.

Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders quickly, not afraid to get hands on and is passionate and creating exciting products.
