My client has an urgent need for an experienced Food Safety Microbiologist to join the Food Safety team in North Yorkshire.

Reporting into the Head of Food Safety & Quality you will be responsible for providing food safety support to internal manufacturing locations in the UK, third-party-manufactures, ingredient vendors, and warehousing and distribution sites globally.

You will be involved in designing the Corporate Food Safety Design program and the owner for microbiological standards development and updates. You will have experience of developing Micro standards for finished products, intermediate materials, raw materials and customer requirements.

The successful professional will liaise with external testing partners to approve testing laboratories. As well as supporting internal laboratory teams on standards development and method validations. You will be the central leadership and technical support for environmental pathogen monitoring & hygienic zoning program.

Your days will consist of conducting food safety training at internal manufacturing sites; review, track/trend results; support investigations, annual site assessments and program reviews. You will be supporting the outcomes of food safety risk assessments, as well as incidents and recommend improvements from lessons learned.

You will have excellent communication and team working skills which you will use for collaboration with teams such as supply, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, and procurement. Your expert knowledge will ensure you are the central hub for integrated change management relating to NPD & R&D trials requiring Micro risk assessment.

The successful professional will partner with R&D and supply chain to complete hazard assessments, identify and validating preventive controls and communicating information to manufacturing sites. As well as ensuring manufacturing sites are updating and maintaining food safety plans, including roll-out of supporting references and tools. You will design and coordinate the completion of thermal profiling and surrogate studies for Ready-To-Eat & Ready-To-Heat production lines, as well as thermal process validations.

To apply you must have:-
  • A degree or equivalent in food microbiology, microbiology, food science, or biology.
  • Experience in food microbiology, food safety, supply or manufacturing quality.
  • Food and beverage regulation knowledge and food customer/consumer expectations, allergen and chemical contaminants experience
  • Analytical and microbiological testing methodology experience


Desirable
  • Experience with toxicology risk assessments and FSMA hazard assessments.
  • Project management
  • Continuous Improvement techniques and implementation
