Job Details

Eden Scott is working exclusively with a global drinks business with iconic brands and we are looking to recruit a highly experienced Head of Packaging Development.

Reporting to the Manufacturing Director and as part of the senior management team you will lead the packaging development team in the development and introduction of new packaging components and assembled packs, from design to commercialisation.

Previous drinks experience is not required.

Extensive package and full relocation on offer for the right candidate.

Key Accountabilities:

People

  • Lead the professional development of team members through technical development opportunities, appropriate seminars/workshops/visits/projects, and IOP/The Packaging Society studies and qualifications.
  • Manage the functionally appropriate skillsets to support the development of individuals, teams and succession planning.
  • Ensure an effective working relationship is maintained at all levels with marketing colleagues and the wider manufacturing team.
  • Engage fully with the sourcing team on selection of supplier for component development.

Process

  • Provide leadership of the NPD process through;
    • Maintain, and develop as appropriate, the NPD Stage Gate process
    • Manage the 3D stage Gate documents for all projects from completion to seeking approval.
    • Organise and “chair” NPD Steering Group meeting with appropriate agenda and documents for review and approval
    • Produce minute and actions of NPD Steering Group meetings
  • Lead innovation through identification, validation and development of new materials and technology.
  • Ensure an effective and robust process is maintained to meet the requirement for component graphic/text change to meet company, market company or regulatory/legal change request.
  • Full participation in and contribution to the Manufacturing Quality Roadmap through leadership and delivery of the NPD Charter

Cost

  • Deliver effective and efficient development of packaging components to meet business expectations (cost, quality, supply, specification, compatibility, regulatory, sustainability).
  • Manage the NPD functional and development budget to meet agreed targets
  • Full participation in and contribution to the Manufacturing Quality Roadmap through leadership and delivery of the NPD Charter

Requirements:

Business Knowledge

  • Technical background with at least five years’ experience of leading teams in a progressive manufacturing environment
  • Degree qualification appropriate to the development of innovative and challenging packaging components

Essential Functional / Technical Skills

  • Broad cross-functional experience in a technical supply, manufacturing, design and marketing environment
  • Experience leading cross-functional project and business teams, engaging at all levels of the business

Personal Attributes / Competencies

  • Must be able to provide leadership which directs and focusses the contribution of others to meeting the business needs.
  • An ability to effectively communicate across all levels in the wider business, face-to-face, in a group and in formal documentation/processes.
  • Ability to train, develop, coach, motivate and mentor.
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure to deadlines
