You could be forgiven for thinking this is describing a food innovation role. Not quite. This is about driving Technical innovation, identifying and bringing new suppliers on board, managing the supplier audit program and complaint reduction, leading the way to deliver the highest quality standards and food safety.
An influential and collaborative style will see you supporting product innovation, working effectively with senior stakeholders across NPD and Commercial teams, whilst commercial acumen and budget control will help you to work in tandem, sourcing raw materials to achieve sales and profit targets aligned with the buying strategy.
So where are you now? Ideally, a senior Technical Manager with a high-end food retailer or restaurant group, with a supplier base working to exacting food safety and technical standards will translate well. In addition, a degree in a Food Science related subject with recognised professional accreditation e.g. IFST, MIFST or similar as a minimum is expected, along with ongoing commitment to CPD.
What will really make you stand out from the crowd? Uncompromising technical standards are fundamental. But this role demands much more…packaging trends, the latest manufacturing methods, sustainability, environmental impact, food trends, consumer behaviour… all are on your radar.
