The role

An excellent opportunity has arisen to work in a leading food manufacturing business based in Warwickshire. They are proud of their sustainable philosophy and  innovative approach to the food industry.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • First point of contact for the laboratory and QA function
  • To ensure that all agreed food hygiene and safety standards are continually adhered to
  • To ensure all technical issues are dealt with effectively, efficiently and findings are reported promptly.
  • Responsible for ensuring the onsite laboratory is well run and meeting required standards.
  • To maintain and control the day-to-day operation ensuring that the quality standard is sustained to a high level.
  • Ensure the lab technicians are using the best test methods and standards to meet the business need, with efficient use of sophisticated test equipment such as the GC (Gas Chromatography) and HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) columns.
  • To manage the rota system used by the lab personnel ensuring coverage of any absences
  • Coordinating and checking the calibration and maintenance of all laboratory equipment is performed as required

 

 

Personal attributes

  • Able to demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly, organise and train staff in quality, housekeeping and hygiene aspects for the production and laboratory areas.
  • To be a "hands on", factory focused, able to drive the forward a continuous improvement approach to quality and technical standards
  • Ability to manage a team and be a positive role model
  • Ability to work to tight timescales, to ensure customer expectations and required goals are delivered in required timeframes

 

 

Experience / Qualifications

 

 

  • Experience of managing an onsite chemistry laboratory, preferably of a food manufacturing operation
  • Experience of managing internal audits and exposure to managing customer audits
  • Knowledge of and experience implementing UK food safety law.
  • Experience of managing a team of laboratory technicians
  • Demonstrable experience of maintaining and troubleshooting instrumentation; specifically HPLC GC and ICP-OES
  • Qualified to at least degree level with demonstrable laboratory experience
  • Preferably HACCP and Food Safety trained
