JOB TITLE: Food Safety Specialist
REPORTS TO: Technical Director
BENEFITS: £26-36k depending on experience + 20 days holiday + your birthday off + company pension + health care benefits. 
HOURS: Full time, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm

Purpose of role:

With the support of a Technical Assistant, provide full technical support within scope of FSC activity in the UK and overseas (office-based and field activity). Manage key management system tasks: management reviews, internal audits, non-compliances, concessions etc. Liaise with suppliers, manufacturers and customers as required to ensure that FSC customer requirements are met.

The role will involve:

HACCP Team Leader
Design, develop and implement improvements to internal procedures
Keep up to date with changes to UK and EU legislation and advise FSC management of impact
Scan FSA and RASFF alerts data for significant events
Undertake new supplier approvals and ongoing supplier management
Design new processes/procedures to deliver continuous improvement 
Manage customer complaint investigations 
Review microbiological results on product and recommend actions
Review and approve shelf life and hot hold data
Internal Audit Team Leader – define annual schedule, select auditors, arrange training and approval processes
Follow-up internal audits to successful closure
Recall Team Leader 
Arrange mock traceability and recall tests with suppliers
Determine internal technical training needs for key personnel 
Deliver training or arrange for training to take place
Undertake supplier audits where agreed

Qualifications (academic and work-related)


HND or degree in a biological sciences or food related subject
Level 3 Food Safety in Manufacturing
Intermediate HACCP


ISO 22000 Lead Auditor trained


Minimum 3 years industry experience in a supervisory technical or quality role, preferably in high care chilled food production 
Internal/ 2nd party audit experience, preferably with overseas audit experience
High level knowledge of food microbiology, allergen management, shelf-life analysis and finished product safety rationale

•    Computer literate, particularly EXCEL
•    Highly numerate
•    Excellent organisational skills
•    Line management skills
•    A self-starter
•    Able to work independently/ part of a team
•    Relishes working in a fast-paced environment in a hands-on capacity
•    Enjoys frequent challenges, change and working in multiple locations 
•    Has a natural can-do attitude and attention to detail
•    Shows initiative
•    Has ability to learn to use new software quickly
•    Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
•    Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
•    Strong influencing skills
•    UK driving licence
•    Willing to travel and stay overnight as the role requires
