Our Client, a well-known UK Restaurant Chain who believe in “People First” is looking for a Risk and Compliance Business Partner to be responsible for planning and carrying out consistent, risk-based Food Safety and Health and Safety compliance audits across their portfolio of restaurants in London, the Midlands and the North

Reporting to the Head of Technical – Restaurants, key accountabilities for the role are:

  • Planning and carrying out consistent, risk-based compliance audits as per schedule, in a timely manner, ad hoc site visits and repeat visits where required
  • Advising on enhancing the compliance audit ensuring it is kept updated and managing risk to the business
  • Focusing on new restaurant openings through 1:1 support and training from pre-opening to on-going trading
  • Providing reports with findings and action plans to Ops teams and reviewing outstanding actions based on agreed timescales and escalate where necessary
  • Identifying trends of poor performing restaurants or individuals and feedback to the appropriate management accordingly
  • Ability to coach and train restaurant management on regulatory compliance processes and procedures, delivering workshops to improve controls within the business
  • To visit restaurants rapidly after incidents requiring formal investigation such as:
  • RIDDOR reportable accidents
  • Robberies and other security incidents
  • Significant hygiene/H&S complaints
  • Employee/whistle-blower concerns
  • Other compliance areas as required e.g. fire safety, trading standards etc
  • Ensuring external Fire Risk Assessments and Health & Safety Risk Assessment activity is appropriately followed up in the restaurants
  • Supporting with ensuring compliance with H&S and Fire Safety requirements at Head Office and for employees working remotely
  • Skills and experience include:

    • Hospitality business experience with a sound knowledge of business principles (may consider someone with Food manufacturing auditing experience if they have sufficient knowledge of H&S)
    • Ideally previous experience in multi-site catering / retail
    • Flexibility to travel, principally within the region with a full driving licence.
    • Knowledge of audit techniques
    • Ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts to prepare and present concise oral and written reports
    • Eager to undertake personal development i.e. knowledge of health & safety and food safety.
    • Commercial in outlook & understands the current business challenges within the industry.
    • Competent advisory to Restaurant Management teams
    • Ability to engage and influence Restaurant Management teams
    • Self-motivated, ability to act confidently
    • Ideally will have a good overall technical knowledge of health & safety & food safety related matters.
    • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent & Level 4 Award in Managing Food Safety in Catering (Candidates with exceptional relevant knowledge & experience but without these qualifications may be considered but should be prepared to work towards obtaining a formal qualification)
    • IT skills including Word, Excel & PowerPoint

    Working hours will need to be flexible, you will be managing your own diary to plan visits to restaurants outside of busy periods. The role offers a competitive salary of circa £40k plus car allowance. Candidates will need to be based in London or the Midlands to reflect the distribution of restaurants covered.
