The Role

An exciting new opportunity for a Health and Safety Advisor to assist with all aspects of Health & Safety Legislations and best practice compliance through the company. With a structured and methodical approach, candidates will ideally have previous H&S experience in a similar manufacturing/FMCG environment supported by capacity to extend learning in this area.

Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager, the HSA will assist with the further develop and implementation of the company safety management system, providing operational management with risk assessments and assisting the HSM with recommendations to ensure legislation compliance. As a strong communicator, the HAS will also be comfortable liaising at all levels, with the ability to work effectively towards dispute resolution and competently deal with challenges in a suitable, timely and professional manner.

Key Duties & Responsibilities include but are not restricted to:

  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager in the further development and implementation of the company Safety Management system
  • Make recommendations and interpret policy decisions to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Deal with general health and safety enquiries and investigate concerns raised
  • Undertake monitoring of action plans arising from internal and external audits
  • Take action including internal enforcement up to and including prohibiting works
  • Assist in the development and implementation of initiatives to promote the Health & Safety
  • Develop and deliver training courses where required
  • Contribute to policy development and review. Prepare and update health, safety and wellbeing policies, Health & Safety standards, guidance and assist managers with risk assessments, method statements and other appropriate documentation
  • Carry out investigation and reporting of accidents and dangerous occurrences
  • Provide administrative support and deputise to the Health & Safety manager
  • Collate and maintain appropriate records and documentation

Tasks

  • Conduct internal Health, safety audits
  • Undertake programmed and reactive health and safety inspections
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations
  • Management and auditing of the T100 electronic health and safety management system
  • Assist operational management in creating risk assessments
  • Noise exposure measurement and monitoring
  • Maintenance and calibration of alcohol testing equipment
  • Maintenance and calibration of type two noise level meter
  • Assist in the production and analysis of accident reports
  • Creation and management of site health and safety boards
  • Delivery of in house health and safety training
  • Undertake such additional tasks as are reasonably commensurate with the level of the post

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Ideally educated to higher education or degree level standard
  • Previous FMCG/Manufacturing industry experience
  • NEBOSH or equivalent (desirable – but training can be provided)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong literacy and numerical skills
  • Strong organisational and observational ability
  • Conversant in the use of MS Office applications, email, MRP systems and the internet
  • Attention to detail
  • Full Driving licence
