An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Manager to join our team on a permanent basis! You will report to the Head of Technical and will be responsible for the Technical function based in Wallingford.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 Leadership and management

  • Lead the way in promoting cross functional working to make food safety and quality everyone’s responsibility
  • Provide leadership and direction to the site technical team ensuring that how we manage food safety and quality is effective and continuously improved
  • Contributes to site technical strategy and vision
  • Leads on technical innovation, keep abreast of development
  • Leads during product incidents/recalls
  • Coach, mentor and develop the team to build our capability and ensure robust succession plans in place
  • Member of the Site Leadership Team (SLT)

Standards and Compliance

  • Drive a risk-based approach to managing food safety
  • Ensure compliance to customer policies, codes of practice and external certification
  • Set and ensure compliance to GMP and factory standards through training, education and validation
  • Manage the internal audit program to drive continuous improvement in standards and quality
  • Ensure incidents are managed effectively through effective data driven investigations with a clear understanding of root cause and implementation of sustainable actions
  • Ensure effective challenge on recalls and trace

Quality Systems and KPIs

  • Ensure effective measuring, trending and reporting against internal and customer KPI’s
  • Ensure our QMS is maintained and evolved in line with customer requirements, industry and technical advances

Customer

  • Manage, co-ordinate and take the lead on all customer visits & audits of a technical nature coordinating and collaborating across the business to ensure a successful outcome. Ensure roles and responsibilities within the team are clear
  • Day to day BRC and retailer audit management, ensuring effective close out of non-conformances
  • Builds effective relationships with customers to ensure we meet their needs
  • Works collaboratively to develop robust customer quality plans
  • Ensure customer complaints and queries are dealt with effectively

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Degree or equivalent in Food Science or related discipline
  • Min 5 years’ experience in FMCG or similar environment, and with at least 3 years of managing teams
  • HACCP Level 3 qualification
  • Experience in regulatory affairs
  • Experience in retailer quality systems
  • BRC Compliance and audits aware
  • Project management skills
  • A strong leader of people
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Great at building relationships internally and externally
  • Knowledge of effective structures and team dynamics and training and development needs
  • Up to date knowledge of technical advances and the changing consumer landscape.
  • Passionate about helping people to be the best they can and experience in coaching and developing people
  • Diligent and attention to detail focused
  • Problem solving skills
  • Driven to succeed
  • Organised and able to multi-task and prioritise effectively
