Job Role
To lead the Purchasing team in delivering the sourcing strategy of all food & packaging categories, with a spend over a billion. As primary lead with the supplier base, you will work closely with other Supply Chain functions and logistics provider to set a strategic sourcing strategy that delivers an optimised, balanced and assured supply chain which provides our client with an enduring driven advantage.

Responsibilities 
•    Lead and develop the team to ensure optimum results while simultaneously supporting talent progression and succession planning
•    Improve supplier relationships and systems that ensure continuous improvement within the parameters of cost, value and service
•    Facilitate supplier selection, including raw material sourcing
•    Grow and maintain relationships with key internal departments, to assure supply of competitively priced, quality ingredients to businesses across the UK
•    Represent the team and Supply Chain department on relevant steering groups, teams and committees
•    Support and advise Purchasing team with large-scale, sophisticated negotiations and agreements that utilise high-reaching bid, formula-costed and open book methodologies
•    Keep abreast of and take industry, market and other internal and external business factors into consideration when making decisions, particularly in relation to competitor inflation and sourcing strategies
•    Build great foundations with Global Commercial Leads in order to work collaboratively to deliver market objectives and strategies
•    Certify all market and global reporting activity is delivered accurately within given timelines
•    Lead communication around our clients total food and paper inflationary / deflationary position, and understand how this has an impact on restaurant cost base
•    Lead direct supplier hedging strategy in collaboration with the Finance team, to mitigate
risk associated with currency impact
•    Possess competent and succinct presentation capabilities
•    Have the ability to handle multiple stakeholders and associated needs, particularly at a higher level
•    Have a consistent track record in leading and developing commercial teams
•    Lead colleagues, ensuring they are coached and developed with personal development plans structured to realise their full potential, including appropriate training plans
•    Lead recruitment, team structure, talent management and credible succession planning within the Purchasing team
•    Recognise more simplified ways of working for the team – through clear prioritisation, a confidence to say ‘no’ to appropriate activity and improving processes and systems through which the teamwork
•    Consistent track record in leading sophisticated, multi-faceted negotiations to successful conclusion
•    Demonstrate commercial acumen and ability to successfully apply technical knowledge around types of pricing agreements, supplier budget management and cost savings
•    Demonstrate curious and inquisitive behaviours, to take into consideration industry, market and other internal and external business factors when making decisions, particularly in relation to competitor inflation and sourcing strategies

Personal Profile
•    Experience of dedicated people management, leadership, motivation and delegation
•    Educated to degree level (in any discipline); relevant procurement experience gained within the food and drinks sector
•    Knowledge of budgetary control and compliance
•    Experience of strategy and objective setting
•    Experience of supplier / partner management and development
•    Computer-literate - proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point
•    Strong team leader & player with the ability to bring to bear & leverage relationships
•    Pragmatic, thoughtful and customer driven
•    Demonstrate a robust and well-thought-out approach to leading challenging situations in a timely manner, that shows the needs of all partners have been considered
•    Ability to take feedback on-board and use it as an opportunity to positively develop skills
•    Ability to deliver feedback in a constructive and positive way (both to suppliers, team and internal partners)
•    Demonstrate capability to build solid networks and relationships across the business to support requirements of the team
•    Demonstrate a strategic approach to interactions with all partners through the ability to adapt approach depending on the desired outcome
