Job Details

Our client, a food manufacturer based in NW London, is seeking an experienced Health, Safety and Environment Manager to lead all aspects of HSE across all sites in England.

As the key member of the Health and Safety Team, responsibilities for the role will include:

  • Monitoring, evaluating and reviewing existing, new, and upcoming health, safety and environmental legislation and ensuring systems and procedures are in place across the business to meet legal compliance and other requirements.
  • Working proactively with Managers and other key staff to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of health, safety, and environment within their areas of responsibility.
  • Developing and advising on environmental programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, or ventilation surveys.
  • Working closely with the Engineering and HR Teams to ensure compliance requirements are being controlled, documented, and maintained in accordance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensuring that rigorous risk assessment and incident management systems are in place and followed across the business.
  • Liaising with HR on health and wellbeing issues particularly where a risk assessment has identified a need, including supporting line managers in carrying out individual risk assessments when required.
  • Overseeing and undertaking audits where appropriate and ensuring an action plan is established to address issues identified.
  • Identifying, providing, and supporting the delivery of an effective health and safety related training regime
  • Embedding a H&S culture within the business with the help of the Health and Safety Adviser.

Essential / Desirable skills include:

  • Relevant NEBOSH or IOSH qualification.
  • Recent proven experience of working in a health and safety role at a similar level and bringing experience in training, coaching and mentoring to develop health and safety knowledge and expertise
  • Line Management experience including providing positive support, advice and development.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of current health and safety legislation, management and standards
  • Ability to interpret and provide authoritative advice on health and safety and risk management issues
  • Good working knowledge of sustainable business issues
  • Ability to organise workload effectively for the purpose of meeting deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a wide variety of contacts
  • Ability to work autonomously and flexibly, responding to business needs
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal and written English
  • Drive, energy and enthusiasm
  • Pragmatic and hands-on approach to the position

The salary on this role is c.£50k and will involve working office hours Monday to Friday with some flexibility to meet the needs of the business.  You will be required to travel between the other sites in England.
