As Health, Safety and Environment Manager, it’s your job to ensure the smooth running, monitoring and awareness of all Site Safety practices in line with legislation and company policies and procedures; working as an influential part of the senior leadership team to ensure effective communication, continuous improvement and world class safety and environmental standards are achieved.  

Reporting directly into our Plant Manager for Hull, you will make up a team of other HSE Managers here at McCain GB, where you will create a culture where safety always comes first.  

You will also… 

  • Suggest and make changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation. 

  • Work alongside our Company HSE Manager to prepare health and safety strategies and develop internal policies.  

  • Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced. Keep records of inspection, report incidents, accidents and findings and produce reports that suggest improvements.  

  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.  

  • Carry out daily site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented. 

  • Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health, safety and environmental issues and risks, including inductions of new starters. As well as conduct safety toolbox talks for all employees. 

  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all GB HS&E developments that affect the site.  

  • Manage records and following up on all outstanding actions to satisfy both internal and external auditing bodies. 

  • Manage the site BS ISO 45001 and 14001 management systems via BSI including the sites internal audit plans. 

  • Ensuring the safe installation of plant and equipment. 

  • Advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, machine operation and isolation, occupational diseases; in conjunction with the Head of Quality and Food Safety 

  • Manage the Incident management software for incidents, accidents, near misses. 

  • Liaising closely with the senior leadership team, Human Resources and Occupational Health to ensure through investigation is carried out in line with employment law. 

  • Organising, and completing minutes for site H&S Pillar meetings. 

  • Ensuring the correct checks and training have been carried out for all 3rd parties; contractors and agency workers, visitors to site. 

  • Facilitating all emergency evacuation training in conjunction with the training department; and updating procedures when necessary.  

  • Using the sites leading indicator safety scorecard as a tool to demonstrate continuous improvement,  

  • Ensuring Environmental compliance in line with the site Environmental permit. 

 

We’re looking for someone… 

That is currently a HSE Manager with manufacturing experience, ideally within a large FMCG business. We also want someone who prides themselves on the standard and quality of their work, and who has a high attention to detail as well as being able to inspire and influence others to lead by example. You must also have… 

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, HACCP and DuPont Safety methodology 

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in H&S 

  • NEBOSH National Diploma 

  • Professional Environmental Qualification  

  • And strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft programmes.
