Job Details

We are passionate about potatoes. But we’re even more passionate about our People!

For over 60 years we’ve been the number one branded player in frozen potato market. When it comes to bringing the nation together at mealtimes with simple, delicious and great tasting food we’re kind of a big deal!

You won’t just find us in supermarkets though. As well as owning a household retail brand, our respected foodservice business works in close partnership with distributors, chefs and caterers across thousands of the country’s pubs, restaurants, hospitals and schools.

From our humble beginnings in the rural community of Florenceville, Canada, McCain Foods is now a global business! We have operations within six continents, with plant sites and offices across the world.

We are recruiting for a Site Engineering Manager in our largest manufacturing plant, Scarborough.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the role of Plant Engineering Manager (PEM) is to lead the site engineering team. The objective of the team is to continuously improve the performance and reliability of plant/equipment at McCain Foods sites, aiming for World Class. This requires an in-depth understanding of modern maintenance techniques and procedures as well as a good working knowledge of a manufacturing site.

The Plant Engineering Manager must be capable of ensuring quick reaction to daily business needs and able to balance this against dedicating an appropriate amount of time and energy to developing improvement strategies and action plans. The development and application of systems and controls are of paramount importance to this role, whether they are Planned maintenance scheduling or other plant systems in order to ensure continued improvement in Safety, Quality, Service & Cost, in alignment with the site strategy.

Project management is also an essential part of the PEM skill set. The PEM will be expected to play a key role in the design of new projects, implementation and subsequent commissioning. It is important that formalised links are in place between the PEM and Central Engineering to ensure ‘best practice’ sharing exists and operational learning’s are incorporated into new equipment design and build.

The PEM should lead by example to inspire and drive others to greater achievement.

You will also be responsible for…

  • Develop and drive the site capital improvement strategy. The strategy should be detailed for the next 12 months with key focus areas for the following 2 years.
  • Working with the factory team to ensure Production line efficiencies and adherence to budget supporting all key stakeholders on the SLT.
  • Ensure there is a maintenance strategy and regime that is supported by all engineering staff that ensures cost effective and safe availability and reliability of all assets (production and infrastructure) within the factory that is based on the plant maintenance strategy.
  • The safety of our colleagues. Establishing practices to maintain a safe working environment and hold people to account for those standards, managing your department in such a way to deliver high levels of compliance at all times as a consistent operating standard.
  • The management and implementation of the company food safety and quality policy. Establishing practices to maintain a Food Safety and Quality focused mindset that holds people to account for those standards.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

Although we do encourage you to taste the goods you’ll be pleased to know we don’t pay you in chips. For working hard, you’ll also get a great salary and some pretty good benefits including:

  • An achievable yearly bonus based on personal performance.
  • An excellent pension where we will pay double what you do, up to a maximum of 12% of your pay
  • Flexible holidays – where you can buy & sell up to 5 days holiday per year
  • Optional health cash plan
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • ‘Chips In’ Volunteering Day Off - to make a positive impact to the competitiveness, resilience, and long-term development of McCain communities across the globe
  • And of course, being part of a Global business there are great opportunities to shine/thrive should you wish to relocate in the future. We have an ambitious 5 year growth plan that presents development & progression opportunities for those who seek it out.

WHERE YOU’LL WORK…

You’ll be based at our plant in Scarborough. It’s the largest plant in our portfolio and over the last few years it went through a big investment, meaning lots of new state of the art machinery to get to know.
