Our client, an innovative Food Manufacturer is looking for a Quality Assurance Manager for their site based in Cumbria. The successful candidate will champion food safety and product quality to ensure legal and regulatory requirements, as well as customer and industry standards, are met.  Will be responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring the site is always audit ready.

Reporting to the Technical Manager and managing a small team, responsibilities for the role will include:

  • Providing day to day technical support for the Technical Manager and site management  team to deliver the technical operations on site, driving continuous improvements through a focus on people, processes, plant, product and communication
  • Training individuals and assessing their competency against appropriate procedures and standards to ensure compliance to the requirements and implications of legislation, Company and Customer "Codes of Practice" and Good Manufacturing Practice Standards
  • Driving the site food safety plan (HACCP),  using this plan to deliver continuous improvements by analysing non-conformances and customer complaints efficiently and cost effectively
  • Monitoring the site technical analysis budget, ensuring delivery of an effective analytical program and investigative analysis
  • Participating and supporting the delivery of all technical audits by customers, third parties and regulatory authorities
  • Providing guidance by taking decisions in the case of non-conforming product, concessions and manufacturing tolerance exceptions
  • Managing a laboratory which carries out a number of standard chemical tests on finished product and effluent. Using the tests results along with independent laboratory results to generate relevant documentation for the release of product. Reporting any adverse results, investigating the cause of these and implementing corrective actions
  • Due to the location of the site a driving licence would be beneficial

Essential / Desirable skills include:

  • A Food Manufacturing Technical Professional with experience and understanding of Quality Systems and   Quality Management. 
  • Manufacturing and Quality Management experience will also be considered
  • Experience of overseeing a Laboratory is an advantage
  • Qualified to at least A Level in a scientific or related subject
  • Experience managing, developing and training a team essential
  • An excellent communicator with well-developed influencing skills
  • Ideally trained to Level 4 (Advanced Standard) in Food Safety & HACCP –Level 3 minimum.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and experience
  • Ability to interpret data and take necessary action
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge and experience of IFS 10 an advantage

The working hours for this role are Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and the salary is £35k-£45k per annum.
