Job Role
This is a brilliant opportunity to join the Purchasing Team which is responsible for the category
management of all thing’s food & packaging, a spend in the billions. As well as direct category
management responsibilities, you will support the Purchasing Manager with the design and delivery of
the strategic framework that enables the Purchasing Team to effectively identify and prioritise projects
that have the greatest impact on the brand and on the delivery of our business plans.
You will work closely with other Supply Chain and Business functions to set a strategic sourcing
strategy that delivers a resilient and assured supply chain that provides our client with an enduring
high-reaching advantage; to support their Growth Strategy, underpinned by our Sustainability ‘Plan
For Change’ initiatives.
This role is perfect for an experienced Purchasing expert with a background in food and/or packaging.

Responsibilities
• Support and advise Purchasing team with large-scale, complex negotiations and agreements that
utilise bid-driven, formula-costed and open, semi and closed book methodologies
• Present finalised commercial recommendations with a well-thought out & clear rationale that
displays all the relevant avenues that have been explored
• Responsibility for strategic data analysis and insights
• Prioritize key projects and thinks innovatively around ambitious, progressive moves that can be
taken forward to develop the business’ leadership position
• Takes on and leads cross-functional / category-based projects that optimise supply chain
benefits
• Certify all market and global reporting activity is delivered accurately within given timelines
• Lead direct supplier hedging strategy in collaboration with our clients Finance team, to mitigate
risk associated with currency impact
• Develop supplier relationship strategies and systems that ensure continuous improvement
within the parameters of cost, value, and service
• Grow and be a greater partner leading relationships with key internal departments, to assure
supply of competitively priced, quality ingredients to UK & Ireland restaurants
• Represent the team and Supply Chain department on relevant steering groups, teams and
committees
• Build strong relationships with Global Category Leads to work collaboratively to deliver market
objectives and strategies
• Lead and develop the team to ensure optimum results while simultaneously supporting talent
progression and succession planning
• Support the Purchasing Manager with recruitment, team structure, talent management and
credible succession planning
• Recognise more simplified ways of working for the team – through clear prioritisation, a
confidence to say ‘no’ to appropriate activity and improving processes and systems
Personal Profile
• Experience in dedicated people management, leadership, motivation and delegation
• Knowledge of budgetary control and compliance
• Experience in strategy and objective setting
• Experience in supplier/partner management and development
• Computer-literate - proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
• Strong team leader & player with the ability to forge & demonstrate relationships
• Pragmatic, thoughtful and customer-driven
• Demonstrate a robust and well-thought-out approach to leading challenging situations in a timely
manner, that shows the needs of all partners have been considered
• Embody the ‘three-legged stool’ approach to the system
• Ability to take feedback on board and use it as an opportunity to positively develop skills
• Ability to deliver feedback constructively and positively (both to suppliers, team and internal
partners)
• Demonstrate capability to build validated networks and relationships across the business to
support the requirements of the team
• Demonstrate a strategic approach to interactions with all partners through a capacitated
approach depending on the desired outcome.
